Those of you who know me know just how difficult this is to write. I don't ask for help.
Well, I didn't. That was before Multiple Sclerosis managed to find a crack in my armor and sank its fangs into me. Now I'm broken, and fighting is a lot harder than it used to be. For years living with this illness, it was understood that if I need help, I will ask for it.
That time is now.
Without going into detail, the James Household is struggling. A lot of things happened over the past year that put us behind on things and there's more coming up. For background – I'm a disabled writer, and my husband is a disabled veteran. We are on a very limited income and I have cut corners and expenses every place I can think of, and while it's helped a little, it's not enough to fix things. I know how to budget and keep a strict eye on my finances. We live alone in a modest home with our four special needs cats and our senior schizophrenic (for which he takes medication) dog. There just isn't anything else I can pull pennies from and make headway.
I need help with the vet bill. My veterinary hospital is the very best. They have always been there for us. We lost our special Bee girl (you can read more about her here) in November. We already had a small bill before she got sick, and several things have happened since. We haven't been able to pay the balance off in months, and are fortunate our vet allows us make monthly payments which keeps it fairly stable.
Paying it off would not only give us breathing room in our beyond-shoestring budget, but would alleviate the huge strain it puts on my calm. I know that doesn't sound like much, but stress is extraordinarily bad for MS. It will send me into a relapse, and your help would do so much for me and my family.
The goal I've set will pay off the vet bill and vaccinations for those who are due them. Anything left over will be put toward future balances and a donation to the vet's Angel Fund, which helps people who can't pay their bill and animals who are homeless/in shelter.
While this is YouCaring and no “perks” are required, I would like to give something back to those helping us out. As I said before, I'm a writer, and I'm going to be releasing a paranormal story in an anthology with Skyla Dawn Cameron. Any donation of $10 or more gets an e-copy of the anthology when it comes out later this year (aiming for June).
I have one set of the Special Edition (that is, not for sale on any platform/private printing available only at signings/giveaways) Stranger Things (All Wounds and Time Heals) books, along with a print copy of my collected short stories, and a copy of The Eternal Kiss YA anthology. $25 or more will put your name into a drawing for these books (international okay.) I will sign/personalize them if that's your thing.
I'm also a knitter, and if you want to get wild and donate $100, I will knit you a hat (Cunning or otherwise).
If you go off the rails and donate $500 or more, I will knit you a Harry Potter Year One/Two scarf in the House of your choosing (or something else of that skill level if you're not into HP).
Thank you in advance for reading, and your help. I appreciate you sacrificing your latte/lunch money/allowance for my furbrats. Any amount means a great deal to me, and I don't say that lightly. Even just a signal boost is enough if you can't spare pennies this month. (I've been there. Wait, I AM there!)
