- Long-time supporters of DCIN have seen how, time and again, we have to post emergency fundraisers to help pay the medical bills for cats in crisis. We very rarely get those fundraisers completely filled - and we deeply appreciate every dollar of assistance we receive! However, DCIN is committed to not leaving cat parents with a bill, even if we don't raise enough to cover the total vet charges. This means that we have to dip farther and farther into our reserve with each cat in crisis, which puts us at risk of having to tell the next parent of a cat in crisis, "No, we can't help your cat at this time." This runs counter to our mission of helping diabetic cats in need.
To combat this issue, we would like to establish a Critical Care Fund. Having this fund available before
we hear of a cat in crisis will give us the ability to say "Yes" to all but the most extensive medical bills. (And in that case, we would likely hold a supplemental fundraiser in order to still help the cat.) We hope our supporters will understand the logic of changing our operating model in this way and that those who have given so generously to our emergency fundraisers in the past will consider donating periodically to this new fund to help us stay in a stable position from which to offer assistance to all diabetic cats in need.
Thank you for caring and for helping DCIN help kitties in need!
