The Story

On August 27, 2017 I took my husband David to the ER for a swollen leg that was starting to look bruised (but caused him no pain). He was quickly admitted and taken by ambulance to a much larger hospital in Indianapolis where we were told he was going to lose his leg due to a rapidly spreading infection.

The amputation surgery lasted 2 hours. He ended up having 3 blood transfusions pretty quickly due to low blood pressure.

David spent a total of 17 days in the hospital. He was able to come home 9/12/17. Today we had our first of many at home nurse/occupation & physiCal therapy sessions. The nurses wrapped up his stub and cleaned it.  She scheduled the therapists to come to our home daily starting tomorrow so he can build up his strength and get ready for his prosthetic that he can be fitted for in 3-6 months.

This money will help cover medical expenses, other bills, medication, etc as he will be unable to work (maybe indefinitely).

No amount is too small. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers if you are unable to donate.

Today was a good day after a couple weeks worth of set backs.

David got to meet Pippa Mann at the pumpkin patch today and really enjoyed that. We were worried that we would have a hard time getting his wheelchair thru the wet mulch but we did just fine.

I try to get him out of the house often just to get some fresh air and have a change of scenery. I don’t want him falling into a depression.

David got denied disability and Medicaid so we are in the process of fighting both of those denials. For now, it means that we have to buy his supplies out of pocket. The test strips alone are $80 a box for 100 strips. That will last him about a month.

Moving forward we can’t do anything in regards to getting a prosthetic until he gets approved for Medicaid.

Thank you all so much for your continued love and support! 💕

David has developed an infection at the site of the amputation. He is running a low grade fever. We are hopeful that this won't require an admission to the hospital, that oral antibiotics will clear it up.
