The Story

Dan Lighten, our favorite neighbor, brother, father, husband, and friend, and the ultimate diehard trash-talking BYU fan, just found out that he has Stage 4 Colon Cancer.

Sadly, doctors here in the United States haven't given Dan and his family much hope in the conventional treatments offered here. So, after countless hours of research, phone calls, and prayer, Dan has decided to seek out treatment with a well respected treatment clinic in Mexico. Between using a mix of both traditional and alternative therapies, Dan and his family feel that this is their best option for his treatment plan.

Unfortunately, the costs for this clinic are not covered by insurance. As Dan's friends and family, we want to show our support and love to Dan and his family! Please help us buoy up the Lighten family at this trying time, and to help alleviate some of the financial burden they are facing, so that Dan can concentrate on working towards a long and healthy future!

**All of the donations collected will go directly toward's Dan's medical expenses. Here is the breakdown of costs:
~8-week stay and treatment at clinic in Mexico: $6,000 a week=$48,000
~8 weeks of home therapy: $1,500 a week=$12,000
~medical deductible (for U.S. costs): $6,350
~Total: $66,350

I wish I had a way to thank you all individually.  I went back through each donation and am filled with so much gratitude to you all!
T H A N K   Y O U !

Dan just finished 8 weeks of treatment down in Mexico and is home now for another 8 weeks of treatment here.  We had to laugh as we tried to mix IV bags, prep needles, and navigate through the whole protocol.  As Dan said, "More instructions came with our Ikea chair than they did with all this treatment".  But we successfully accomplished our first day.
He is doing great, and although a little sick, plugging along.  His cancer continues to respond well to it all and his cancer markers are now officially in the "normal range".  His doctors are amazed by his incredible progress.  We are staying hopeful that the tumor in his liver will either disappear or shrink enough for surgery. It has been quite a journey and through it all we have felt the hand of the Lord.
Thank you for you kindness and support - it truly has been such a blessing in our lives!

Much Love,
The Lightens
