The Story

What an incredibly exciting time for the whole Cater family!

A sweet baby is coming soon! Laura, Dan and Thatch have been approved for the next steps in adopting their new little one! The last several months have confirmed to them both that they are ready to adopt and raise their second child. It has been a journey of ups and downs - but ultimately trusting in God's plan for their lives as a family. The excitement is oozing from the Caters as they talk about their little one that will arrive one day. To hear more about their story and their specific call to adopt, check out their blog: Bringing Home Baby Cater.

Now is the time for us, as the "village," to step in. We have all heard that "it takes a village to raise a child," and this situation is no different. Laura and Dan need tons of prayer and encouragement as they enter into this next season as a family. And since we are their family, friends, church and community, it's time for us to be the biggest supporters! Little baby Cater is coming soon!

When asking Laura about their needs at this time, here is what she says, "first and foremost, PRAYER is needed. Be in prayer for that sweet little one that will one day be ours. Pray for their health, safety, growth, and their future salvation in the Lord. Pray for their birth mother. Pray that the Lord will give her wisdom and comfort as she takes steps and makes decisions for herself and for the child. Pray for her health, safety and salvation. Pray for us as the we complete the home study process and await the arrival of our child. Pray for our hearts to be filled with peace as we wait upon the Lord and his perfect timing. Pray that the Lord would prepare our family for this new addition."

Prayer is needed now. Setting aside a time each day or each week to pray for these specific things that they are asking would be amazing - nowadays, we can set alarms on our phones to pray for this exact situation! The Caters have trusted God along the way, and this new season is no different.

What you may not know about adoption is this: it is quite expensive. Not just getting the nursery ready, or the formula and diapers, but the legal process beforehand. There are many social workers, lawyers, and counselors to make this the smoothest and safest transition possible for the birth parents, and also Laura and Dan. The amount needed before January 2018 is this: $25,000. The Caters are working hard alongside Lifeline Children's Services to make sure every dollar is spent wisely. You can find out more about the Lifeline adoption program on their website: (If you have questions about how this  "youcaring" free online fundraiser works, feel free to email me, Cher, at [email protected]. If you want to know other ways to donate and help out, I can help you too!)

So, now is the time for us to rally together, pray for the Caters, encourage them, and give financially toward this amazing family! The funds are all needed early next year as the baby can come at any time. This child is so loved already, and the Caters are already so appreciative of any gift that can be made toward this process.

We can't wait to meet the little one!

Here is the Cater's latest blog post:

"I have had lots of questions about what our adoption will look like. Well, there is no exact answer for that, as each situation looks different. But I can give a brief overview of the process and the basic break down of events.

As soon as we get final approval of our updated homestudy (which we hope will be in the next 2 weeks), we will begin the matching process. During this season, we will receive information about birth mothers who are expecting and would like to make an adoption plan for their child. We will read, think, and pray over this information and decide if that birth mother and child would be a good fit for our family. If we say yes to her, then she will be give a profile book of our family. (This is essentially a scrapbook that I have made, that gives her the ins and outs of the Cater family, our goals and dreams as parents, and our day to day life.) She will also be given the profile books of any other hopeful adoptive families who are interested in her. At this point, the decision will be placed in her hands as to which family is the best fit for her child.
This process has no timeline, no rhyme or reason. Just God's divine plan. So you can most certainly be praying for His perfect timing and His wisdom to inform every step.
From then, there is no specific guideline for how things will go. Those are decisions that will be made between the birth mother, ourselves, and our social workers.
Until then and even once the baby is born, there is time for birth mom to change her mind. In this, we know that God knows what is best for the child, and we will have to trust and have confidence in His plans.

So that is a brief and vague explanation of the road we have ahead. There are so many factors, legalities and emotions that will inform and guide this journey. But ultimately, we know the Lord is going to guide our steps and our prayer is that we will be able to remember that and have confidence in that every step of the way.

Thank you for loving us and supporting us. Thanks will never be enough."

Thanks to everyone who helped out, donated, and shopped at the garage sale this past Saturday!

From Laura: "Dan & I cannot even begin to express how thankful we are for the outpouring of love and support we experienced today. We raised over $1300 from the garage sale. Thank you is not enough to everyone who came, donated items and purchased things today. And these two women [Laura's mom & Dan's mom], I don't even have words. Baby Cater is more loved than they will ever know. We are so humbled and thankful for the Lord's blessings & faithfulness."
