Dae-Dae is the four-year-old girl who was in the backseat when Philando Castile was killed in his car. While Philando was dying, she soothed her grief-stricken mother saying, “It’s OK, Mommy … it’s OK, I’m right here with you” and “I don’t want you to get shooted.”
I'm a mom of two, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about this baby. I've felt helpless wondering what will happen to her.
Philando and Diamond, Dae-Dae's mom, weren't married. There were funds raised to support immediate needs for both the Castile and Reynolds families, but I looked everywhere for a scholarship specifically for Dae-Dae and couldn't find one. With the help of some friends, we contacted her family and looked into the legalities surrounding how to set this up.
This fund is specifically for Dae-Dae, who is now five, when she comes of age. If you're willing to help by donating whatever you can, we can ensure that this awful event doesn't define her future.
Our plan is to put these funds into an irrevocable trust. So in addition to donations, we're also looking for someone to help us create a pro-bono irrevocable trust for a minor with:
• a third-party trustee, someone who isn't related to the little girl ,
• and a HEMs provision which allows the funds to be used only for health, education, and maintenance.
Please reach out if you can help with that or know someone who can.
In the meantime, if you've been lost, wondering what you can possibly do to help, this is it. Thank you for giving whatever you can.
