is Columbia’s first student-run recording studio. Since we opened our doors in January 2017, we’ve recorded over 100 student musicians as well as non-CU bands and some CU staff members--all for free, thanks to a team of passionate student sound engineers.
We’re committed to including the entirety of the Columbia community. Our engineers and board members come from all four undergraduate schools: Barnard, Columbia College, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the School of General Studies. We’ve recorded everything from esoteric noise rock, to classic country eps, to covers of Stevie Wonder songs by Carman Residence Hall guard Sir Mike. We pride ourselves in being inclusive and diverse in both the music we record and the communities we work with.
However, we need your help! Most of the equipment in our studio is owned by students who are merely lending us their equipment until they graduate. We desperately need the items listed below to continue quality recording. The total cost comes out to around $5,000, and we’ve provided links to each item so you know what you are supporting. We sincerely thank you for ensuring CU Records’ continued existence.Equipment list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ydBo1TTB7EBhVmP-ye71fjuId9xAzHEybD2xr_M1KEc/edit?usp=sharingRewards for your generosity:
