I learned of the Books for Babies program in 2010 when my daughter was born at just 25 weeks of pregnancy. She weighed a little over 12 ounces. She wasn't expected to make it through the night, but she did. The day she was born I was presented with a book that had her hand and feet prints in it. My daughter was so sick and so frail. I was not able to hold her, to bring comfort through my touch. The hospital gave me the book so that I could read to her. That I could bond with her. She could find comfort in my voice and the book gave me words.
The next month I got another book. We got one each month we were there, with her prints so I could she how she had grown. I met amazing families and nurses. I witnessed miracles go home everyday.
155 days later I lost my daughter, she was too sick. I cherish everyday I shared with her, reading with her even after I could hold her. And I took home with me her books, with her prints that I will treasure forever.
I now have a healthy son and I started reading to him in the womb and he now has a love of reading that makes my heart joyous. I will always remember and hold dear what Books for Babies did for my family and all the families I came to know and love.
In honor of my daughter's life I have choosen to hold a book drive for the Books for Babies Program at the hospital where she lived. As a consultant for Usborne Books & More I have the means to give back just a little of what what given to me. My goal is $1550, our books average $10 and we spent a 155 days in the NICU. Our company matches 50% of all donations so together we can provide future families with a way to connect and bond with their little ones.
Thank You in Advance for your Support. You may never truly know what it means to a parent but I do and it means the world.
