We need YOUR help to improve the health and wellbeing of more patients in some of the poorest parts of the globe through optimising the use of medicines. Please support us!
The use of medicines remains the most frequent healthcare intervention in all countries, but not only do many countries still lack access to essential medicines, they also lack reliable sources of medicines information to ensure that medicines are used safely and effectively for the benefit of their people.
PharmAid is a well known and very popular scheme run by the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association (CPA). This charity collects recent editions of medicines information resources (such as the British National Formulary and Martindale) from hospitals and pharmacies throughout the UK each year and redistributes them in response to requests from lower-middle income countries. The demand for the medicines information resources received by us each year greatly outweighs the financial resource of the charity and without funding this impactful global public health initiative cannot continue. Your support is crucial to ensure pharmacists and other healthcare workers in low resource setting have access to vital resources to improve the health of their patients.
In a recent survey, 80% of recipients stated that the resources they receive from PharmAid are very influential to their practice, or that their practice would not be the same without them. Recipients told us that they use frequently the resources provided to look up medication dosing in children, safety in pregnancy and lactation, and management of interactions and side effects. This highlights the impact the scheme has to ensure safe and effective use of medicines.
