The Story

Hello friends, family, and with any luck, even some strangers. As many of  you know I have been suffering from severe Crohn's disease, spondyloarthritis, and a small handful of other immune related conditions for a multitude of years now.

Unfortunately after about year of treatment, my most current medical therapy for treating these conditions is failing. This has led to a rapid decline in my state of health. Because of this I have been recently hospitalized, and have also required multiple recent and future out of state appointments to try and determine the future of my care. Thankfully, most of my medical expenses are covered by my current insurance. However, the cost of travel and lodging for my out of state appointments has become too much of a burden for me and my partner Kim to bear on our own.

During the week of October 12th I will need to return to Harborview medical center in Seattle, Washington, for multiple days of tests and appointments that will be essential for determining my future treatment.

My goal for this fundraiser is to recoup some of the expenses for a visit to Harborview last week, that we funded using credit, and to hopefully raise money for the upcoming appointments as well. I cannot stress how important it is that I keep these appointments in order to develop a plan for my continued care and the fact is that that will simply not be possible without your help. So please, if you are able, donate today.

Thanks and best wishes,
Colin Eliason Corbett

Update: after multiple tests and appointments at UWMC and Harborview in Seattle, my doctors and I have come to the conclusion that surgery is my best option at this time.  I will be returning to Seattle on Dec. 7 for a total colectomy  (removal of the large intestine) and ileostomy. Thanks to all those that have helped us get this far with travel and medical expenses.

Recovery is still going well so far. I had a follow up with my surgery team on Thursday. They were very happy with how things are progressing. I am cleared to fly back to Montana tomorrow, as we had hoped and should be able to just continue my care there as long as everything continues to go smoothly.

It is still going to be a while before I make a full recovery, and will also take some time to get used to all the permanent changes that come along with a surgery like this. I know that this operation is not considered a cure for Crohn's disease, and it may not have an impact on my arthritis at all. However, I am confident that it will result in a major improvement to my quality of life and my overall happiness.

Tomorrow is the last day that this fund raising page will be active, and hopefully it will be a very long time before I will ever need help like this again. Thank you all, once again, for all your help. This has been one of the biggest, scariest, most stressful, and at the same time most hopeful, and exciting times in my life and I would not have been able to do it without all of your love and support. Best wishes, and happy holidays!

Colin

I am out of the hospital. I am still in Washington for a little while for follow-ups and to recover a bit more before traveling. Surgery went well and so far recovery is still on track too! Best wishes, everyone.

Surgery on Tuesday went well. It is going to be a long recovery, but I should be out of the hospital very soon. I am feeling pretty optimistic about the future. Hopefully this operation will give me some lasting relief and increase my quality of life for a long time to come.

I will still be staying in the Seattle area for at least a week after I leave the hospital so I can follow up with my doctors here and make sure that I have recovered enough to travel back to Montana. After that I will probably be taking it easy for a while as I recover and learn to live my new and hopefully, healthier life.

Thank you again for all of your support and best wishes and happy holidays to everyone.
