The Story

Colette Gruber is smart, beautiful, energetic, passionate & loving. She is also a fierce fighter. Over the past several months she has been on a journey to battle Stage IV Breast Cancer that has metastasized to various places throughout her body. On May 31, 2017 Colette returned from her 3 week intensive treatment at CHIPSA Hospital in Mexico. With the love and support of her boyfriend Anthony, family, friends and community, we raised enough money to send her to this innovative and groundbreaking Cancer Center. Colette continues her extensive treatment from CHIPSA doctors and protocol now at home. She is daily tested to stretch her faith and endurance to overcome this horrible disease. While she is undergoing treatment it has left her unable to work and she is reliant on family, friends and financial donations to allow her to continue her fight and pay for her daily living expenses.

Whether you are new to her journey, or are a long-term pillar of support, we want to thank you for your uplifting thoughts, prayers and financial gifts. Colette and her family are extremely grateful for all of your love and thoughtfulness. For a history of this journey from where it started to where we are today please see below:

On March 7th 2016, just after her 40th birthday, Colette was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma in her right breast. She had just separated from a difficult marriage. Colette was in school to become a certified surgical technician while rebuilding her life to support her 5 beautiful children, Kole, age 2, Brody, age 4, Khloé, age 6, Michael, age 12 and Alyssia, 21. Colette’s always striven to live a healthy, active lifestyle. She’s an advocate for eating healthy & exercising by motivating others to do so as well. Her positive attitude when faced with such difficult circumstances has been an inspiration to so many around her.
As soon as she was diagnosed, she & her doctor made a plan to take an aggressive treatment. On May 23rd 2016, she underwent a partial mastectomy with reconstruction and had 12 lymph nodes removed. Colette took it many steps further by striving to adopt a holistic lifestyle and continuing to eat healthy, exercise, and create awareness about Breast Cancer to those in her community. We were excited to hear the news that she was cancer free. She went on to graduate Surgical Tech school as one of the top students in her class and became employed immediately!

Her Challenge
During the past year after her surgery she's did the best she could but the challenges and stresses of her fast-paced life working a full-time job, taking care of her children and maintaining a home were very difficult to manage. Staying on a 100% holistic diet and maintaining it are both expensive and time consuming.
In February of 2017 Colette started to experience some very excruciating pains in several areas of her body. She immediately contacted her doctor and reported her symptoms and then had to wait for insurance to approve her PET scan. In late March of 2017 she received the terrible news that she now has Stage 4 Metastatic cancer that has spread to her spine, pelvis, ribs and liver and resulted in a new mass under her armpit.

Your Chance to Help
Have you ever witnessed someone who’s battled with a real tragedy and said, “If I had only known, I would have helped?” Kindness and generosity are so powerful. Now’s your chance to make a miracle! Not only for Colette, but for her beautiful children. For the love of life. The fight to be cured. Together we can make a difference!

Her Victory
Colette has the chance to overcome this dreadful diagnosis and turn this tragedy into her victory. Even in the face of the biggest challenge of her life, she remains positive and has faith that she can and will beat this! She immediately sprung to action continuing to research the best course of treatment with her medical team. She found a unique cancer treatment center outside the US that has provided her with a very aggressive plan of treatment that has resulted in curing this very same type of cancer. The cost is high and she is not able to work. She raised enough money to cover the initial cost of treatment & her travel but still has need for her additional treatment, travel back to CHIPSA and for living expenses for her and her children.

There's very little time and I'm asking on our family’s behalf for you to share, shout, and spread the word to help her. Her goal is to have the treatment within the next 3 weeks. Anything you donate will go directly to her treatment, living expenses for her & her children, as well as the travel expenses for her to go back and forth to her treatment. Please give as if someone’s life depends on it, because it truly does! Thank you for your love, prayers and generous donations. We’ll be posting updates often!

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick update on Colette. She is continuing her treatments and is fighting hard! There are a few words that I'd like to share from Colette's Facebook post that illustrates the daily regimen she is undergoing. "
Today's schedule🙋
Organic fresh juiced OJ
Bowl of organic watermelon
#1 coffee enema
B12 injection 🍑
Two rounds of suppliments down
Meditation on my deck 20 mins
1st Green juice in hand (16oz)
Bowl of organic grapes!
Next- coffee enema #2
#seeyacancer ✌️

#foodisthymedicine
#detox

And although our warrior girl is killing cancer left and right, it takes a toll. It's a long journey that involves hard commitment and exhausting efforts on all around Colette to support her. Her words from July 18th after a reaction to a treatment say it all:

"The hardest thing to go through is to watch my mom take care of my children and make dinner for them, while my boyfriend and my older son are making my juice, juicing. As I lay here on the couch in pain and nauseous from treatments yesterday. No one knows how hard this is unless you have to face it. You basically lose everything you worked so hard for like your job, energy, strength, some of your body parts, it's vicious this disease. The worst part of it is not being able to take care of my kids like I use to because I am weak, in pain and nauseous. That's the thing with treatments, you can be fine one minute then down for the count the next minute. It's all worth it though but the hardest thing to do is sit and watch your loved ones do your job. I will live and I will restore my health, the God I serve is great!!
Thank you my awesome, amazing mom and my amazing, loving, caring, respectful boyfriend Love you guys ❤️💝💪

Please watch the newest video Colette has shared on this YouCaring site and then consider donating again if you've done so before. She is still out of work and continues to need financial support. Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts and amazingly creative ways to lift up this beautiful soul, my cousin Colette.

Hello #TeamColette! Today we are so excited to share an update the today Colette and Anthony arrived home safely in NJ. She is still undergoing treatment so please continue to pray. Sharing an update from Anthony's Facebook page now to share his insights and outlook. Please keep them both in your prayers!

"Good morning everyone! First I would like to start by saying thank you! Colette and I leave the hospital tonight after a long 3 weeks of extensive treatment to jump start her fight to kill the Cancer that lives in her tiny body. Yesterday we received some amazing news her cancerous tumors have already started to shrink and decline significantly in just 3 weeks! This is so uplifting and gives us so much hope! We have had alot of bad days but some good as well but as I said before, all are a blessing..It's been tough seeing her and everyone here receiving treatments go through this on a daily basis. I have learned alot. As I sit hear early this morning I have many thoughts running through my head. I consider myself a strong person someone that can take alot on my shoulders and still be successful but in saying that I am human. I am nervous! I am scared and I am certainly humbled. Seeing Colette battle with everything she has. To be strong while in pain and scared herself really gets to my soul as a person. Chipsa hospital has changed me in many ways but most of all it has taught me no matter what we are going through in life loving and caring for someone with all you have is so important. I hope I do that for her!
So much running through my head. Alot of responsibility for me to continue and make sure she is getting her treatments at home the proper way. I ask God to give me the strength and courage to be strong for her and to be able to provide that strength and comfort to her so she may concentrate and continue to fight.
We have made many new friends here that I will cherish. Amazing people, patients, companions, Doctors , Nurses and hospital staff. I will remember them and the way they treat people especially when I'm struggling with something. Lastly I want to thank all my friends and family, Colette's friends and family and also all of those magnificent strangers we have had the pleasure of meeting and interacting with along the way that have prayed, donated and shared Colette's story. If it wasn't for you she would have not been able to do this. You are amazing, kind, generous, loving, caring and giving. We are so humbled by you and you are all loved by Colette and I.
Make no mistakes about it she will still need assistance moving forward but I am confident it will all come together.
God Bless all of you and may he always grant you peace in your lives."
