Adoption has always been on our hearts, and the conversation about it has happened more and more frequently in the last few years. As most of our friends and family know, we were pregnant last year, and lost our son Isaiah at 36 weeks (you can read his story at isaiahrogers.tumblr.com). That has been the hardest thing we’ve ever experienced. As we continue to grieve, not a day passes that we don't think about or miss our son. We know our hearts will never fully heal, but we trust God still, know that He is good, and rejoice that our son is in His arms. We have felt an increasing ache in our hearts as we long for more children to love on. We are continuing to pray about a new pregnancy and adoption as we hope to fill our arms with little ones.
The conversations around adoption grew when we spent 6 months in South Africa, volunteering with several non-profits. We spent time in townships of severe poverty, helping students and children with homework, life skills, recreational sports, and sharing Jesus with them. To see so many beautiful children in the streets, with no parents to look after them and no one to love on them was hard to witness, and it's something we talk of often. We've since looked into adoption on a few occasions, but life circumstances seemed to make the timing feel off, so we never continued down the path very far. In the last few months, as we've prayed about it, we have just felt like God was saying "What are you waiting for?" We both know that it's something we want to do, and we can't think of a reason to wait any longer. So we're doing what we can, and taking care of the small things. And we're continuing to pray that God will provide for us and take care of the big things.
So we have started the adoption process. It takes anywhere from 6 months to a year, and costs between 30-45 thousand dollars. We’re working with Christian Adoption Consultants in order to help us through the process. The majority of the money will be used for:
- Application Fee
- Expectant Mother’s Living, Support & Medical Expenses
- Social Service Fees
- The Baby’s Medical Expenses
- Legal Fees
- Agency Administration and Advertising Fees
- ICPC (Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children) Fees
- Home Study & Post Placement Fees
We are so grateful for any and all support we receive. Financial gifts, prayers, and sharing the fundraiser with friends are all appreciated. It’s not easy for us to ask for help, but we have seen people who share their lives authentically and we want to do the same.
