The Story

Welcome to Crossing Oceans for Friendship.  This is a collaboration between Karen McShea, Justin Biggs, Joseph Manuel Ojeda and the musicians from the Puerto Rican reggae band Pielago, Kite4Water.org, 15knots.com, Mark E. Curry Family Foundation, Flamboyan Foundation, and the Frye Foundation. We have joined forces to bring clean drinking water to the most impacted areas on the devastated Island of Puerto Rico.

The most immediate effort is to purchase and deliver portable water filtration systems to those most impacted by the hurricane.  Each system yields up to 540 gallons of clean water per day and has a life expectancy of 1 million gallons of water guaranteed!! Each system costs $50.00 plus another $10.00 for accessories such as a bucket and faucet adapter.  We have already delivered over 300 filters to towns most dramatically impacted by the hurricane.  This week with your help we hope to raise enough money to purchase another 2000 units of filters and buckets, we plan to provide hot meals for over 1,000 Puerto Ricans. The goal is for each municipality to have a minimum 25 or more of these systems located at community centers such as police or fire stations, schools or churches where residents can go to collect water.

To date, we have purchased:

2,000 filters and buckets

1,000 units of womens and childrens clothing

1,000 hot meals

Our shipping costs for buckets and filters to San Juan have exceeded $18,000 (not including the costs of the goods).

Please help us with a donation.  And ... Help spread the word!!!

With sincere appreciation, Justin, Karen, Joseph, and team!

Thanks to your support and the support of our sponsors, Crossing Oceans for Friendship has now provided clean water to over 50,000 people in Puerto Rico and we aren't stopping until that number reaches 500,000!! Today our team is sailing to Culebra to bring supplies there.

The sad truth is that when we get to many of these communities, we are usually among the first to reach them with clean water, food and supplies.  We are making a difference, but can't do it without your help.

Please share our efforts and ask your friends to help!  Thank you!!!

Crossing Oceans for Friendship continues to grow thanks to your support.  So far we have:

- Delivered over 300 filtration systems into the mountain towns of Orocovis, Morovis and Baranquitas

- Delivered hot meals to 500 people with the help of Comidas Caliente

- Provided 1,000 units of clothing for women and children

- Purchased 2,000 more filters and have secured a private cargo plane to deliver 2,000 more buckets to our secure warehouse in Carolina, Puerto Rico

But it's still not enough! We need more help!! We would like to purchase another 2,000 filters to get out into the field.  Each water filter provides clean water to 100 families per day.  There are approximately 875,000 people without water.

Please help with a donation and share our efforts with your friends so that they can help too.

With love and appreciation, Karen, Justin, Joseph & Team

Since our last update, we have reached the communities of Morovis, Orocovis, Humacao, Comerio, Utuado and el Barrio de La Perla.  We have many more missions scheduled and need to continue purchasing filters and buckets.  Our goal is to reach over 15,000 filters in distribution.  With your help we can.
With graditude,
