If I, Craig Engels, win the Sir Walter Mile, I pledge to commit $1000 of the winnings to this cause.
Where the money is going:Nicholas "Doobie" Doub Scholarship Fund:
On his way to school, our teammate and friend, Nick "Doobie" Doub, was in a car accident and tragically lost his life after hitting a patch of ice on the road. Nick touched the lives of everyone he knew and brought the whole school closer and showed God into many people's lives. Since passing, Chris Catton, Nick's high school cross country coach has started a race in his name and the profits go towards a scholarship in Nick's honor. Currently the scholarship goes to the person at Ronald Reagan High School who embodies "Doobies" spirit and care for human kind. This is an opportunity to add to that scholarship that will one day in the future become a statewide, if not country wide gift so that all may hope to catch a glimpse of what an amazing soul Nick was and still is. *No, his nickname is not a drug reference... it was a play on his last name and his unique personality*Children With Hair Loss:
Children With Hair Loss is a non-profit organization that provides human hair replacements at no cost to children and young adults facing medically-related hair loss. When a child's hair is lost due to Cancer treatments, Alopecia, Trichotillomania, Burns, etc., the painful effects are far deeper than just cosmetic. Although my hair is not long enough to donate, $.88 of every $1 donated directly helps recipients due to the fact that this charity does not charge the wig recipient!
Other Charities in Need
: Although it is a long shot for this to be extremely successful, I will put my full effort into helping as many people as possible. If this event raises more than $3000, the donations will be split by suggested charities.
One of those charities is matteroftrust.org
, a company that uses hair to clean up oil spills! (Video- Matter of Trust- Hair Soaks Up Oil Spill
