FTMW BREAKFAST PROGRAM
in the CARAGA-region on north-eastern Mindanao resides several tribes in the Philippine subtropical rainforests. As of now, in 2015, still a majority of them are illiterate or have poor schooling.
As a part of our agreement with Adlay Elementary School, Carrascal, Surigao del Sur, in 2004 that all children which participate in education should not starve but have sufficient nourishment FTMW, Filipino Tribe Mission, started a feeding program in which children in age for elementary education will have a nourished breakfast and lunch every school day.
The goal of the program is not solely to feed the tribal children, but to educate and train their parents how to cook nourished meals on an everyday basis. To this engagement it is too important that parents and tribal members learn how to reach the different contents needed for a good meal.
This leads to that we need to assist parents to reach a better skill education so that they can support their families more sufficient.
Yet this program is hard to run since there are a lot of problems that encounters once we set off.
Every child need a birth certificate to enrol school, which many have not since they are born in the forests or under poor circumstances in small towns.
People are sometimes afraid of the tribes’ behaviour, why it happens that children are discriminated in school and the tribe is oppressed in their society. To avoid this we need to involve in an engagement which embrace all in the local societies, no matter background of religion, political views, skin colour etc.
This has lead us to start up a program to which we invite all children of the local tribes of Mamanwa and Manobo in our area, together with children appointed by the local principal and teachers to be under starvation and in special need.
We invite them together with their parents, and often their mothers comes in the morning to learn to compose and cook meals while the children prepare for lessons by washing themselves, brush teeth and dress in school uniform. The parents stay for own skill training of need, and the students comes back for lunch which their parents has prepared as well.
BE A BACKER
To reach all the children without that we shall need to appoint which is the lucky to have food, we need more supporters and volunteers. Only €30 covers food for a student in a month. In a total of approximate 1000 students, we have 160 children in need of help with meals daily, while we only reaches 12 due to lack of funds.
Together we make a difference – your contribution is great how much or little you ever decide to give.
Your donation goes through Swedish Fundraising account called 90-Konto
