The Healing Corner started in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago in response to a shooting that took place next to a prayer vigil. Realizing prayer circles were no longer enough, The Healing Corner community building events were created to engage the community in open dialogue. The Healing Corner goes to different corners known for violence predominately on the West Side of Chicago and passes out free food, hugs, and resources. We build a dialogue around the issue of violence while forming and maintaining community relationships. The Healing Corner also fosters collaboration with other community organizations. Our events predominately take place in the West Humboldt Park, Garfield Park, and Austin neighborhoods.
The Healing corner was launched in the end of 2015 by Arielle Maldonado & Krystal Robledo. We put an emphasis on getting to know the young men and boys who hang out on the corner and guide them towards a positive path. Through encouragement, guidance, resources, and love, we hope to change lives and create peace in our most troubled inner-city communities.
If we don't teach and display unity, we cannot expect our brothers to stop killing each other. We must lead by setting a positive example.
HEAL Chicago stands for Hope, Empowerment, Atonement, and Love. The Healing Corner is a street outreach program of HEAL Chicago. We have big hopes for the future!
Last year we had nearly 40 community events, served Thousands of meals, and touched countless lives thanks to your help! We not only reached the west side of Chicago, but expanded to North Philly and the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston.
Please continue to support our work. We need help raising money to cover our events. Your contribution will help us provide food at events and have an emergency fund for families in need that we can access as an on needed basis. The emergency fund will be used in cases of CTA bus cards, school supplies, groceries, etc.
**As of 2018, all donations to The Healing Corner through this portal are tax-deductible through our 501c3 fiscal sponsor "Called 2 Serve" (EIN: 20-1468972). However, please notify us if you need a tax receipt as we are all volunteers and do not have paid employees. Thank you for your consideration and your patience!
Help our street therapy program grow and evolve to a trusted center that offers resources, counseling, and programming for ultra-high risk youth, young adults, and their families. Help us prevent violence on the corners that see it too often.
Restoring hope from corner to corner, we hope you stand with us as this amazing program continues to develop. And if you are unable to stand with us, we hope you will support us with a donation to this direct approach to stopping and preventing violence.
