Cheri Maples was in a horrific bicycle accident September 8, 2016. That she survived is something of a miracle, and she has made incredible progress in healing from her multiple, life-threatening injuries and bouts with pneumonia. Her most serious injury – a spinal cord contusion – has left her paralyzed below her chest, and until she has acute physical rehab, and more time for healing, we don’t know how much, if any, function she will regain.
Cheri has been supported in her recovery by hundreds of people, all over the world, who have been touched by her friendship, teaching, and wisdom over her many years of service to the world. Now we are asking for your financial support, to help us provide Cheri with home health care and needed equipment when, in the next few months, she is discharged from acute rehab to begin a new and very challenging chapter of her life.
We estimate that Cheri will need $36,000 a year in additional funds to cover home care and related expenses. This is over and above the expenses that her income and insurance will cover. This likely will be an ongoing need, although the amount may decrease over time if she regains some function, and as she gets stronger. Whatever you are able to give will make a difference in Cheri’s degree of independence and ability to resume her life as a dharma teacher and leader in working for criminal justice reform.
