The Story

Charlie was found on the side of the road yesterday unable to walk properly.  He is very emaciated and the vet found that he'd been shot in the leg and that it is about a week old.  This baby lay out in the cold starving with a bullet wound for at least a week.  X-rays show there are many bullet fragments that will be impossible to remove and it shattered part of his leg bone.  He was immediately taken to the vet and a splint/cast was put on the leg in hopes that it will heal properly.  The vet thinks he's young enough that the bone could heal.  He will be checked weekly until it's decided whether to amputate the leg or not.  Please help us cover the costs of his medical bills and further treatment.  This fundraiser doesn't include the cost of amputation as it has not yet been determined that it's necessary.  It's beyond my comprehension that someone could shoot a young, starving dog and people like that should be stopped.  This precious soul is approximate 6-8 months old and even though he's had a very rough start in life, he has such a sweet temperament and is starving for love.  He's getting plenty of that now and is eating it up.  He even learned to sit on command this morning.  He will need a good, loving home once his treatments are done.  If you're interested, you can email for an adoption application [email protected]  In the meantime, we need to raise the funds to help this precious dog.
Let's give Charlie a Merry Christmas!
Thank you!

Charlie is doing very well and has a new family to love him.  He will require some ongoing care for awhile but it looks like he's going to keep his leg and eventually be able to put some weight on it.  His weight is perfect now and he's hungry no more!  He learned to sit, shake and give 'high five', all within two or three tries.  He's so smart and loves to cuddle!  THIS is what rescue is all about.  These are the happy endings that make it worthwhile.  And his case is another example of how much animals need our help.  Your support makes this all possible.

Charlie is finally healed enough to be neutered.  So yesterday he had this done and was put on yet another round of antibiotics.  His leg seems to be healing....slowly.....but it's happening.  They left the splint off and though it's still swollen and draining, he is in good spirits and seems more playful than he's been since he arrived here.  It's been great watching him heal, gain weight and become a happy dog.  His vet bills have doubled in the last few weeks so I've updated the original fundraising amount.  Your help is still needed even if it's just $1.  We can all do $1 and combined we will make a huge difference in the life of this dog and allow this rescue to resume taking in other animals.
**Note: the fundraiser amount doesn't even include his food or the time and gas of getting him back and forth to the vet so frequently (which is a long drive since he's out in a rural area).  That is all being covered by me and wonderful volunteers who care about Charlie.

The vet removed Charlie's splint/bandages hoping to help it heal faster.  I'm skeptical but it's worth a try.  This pic is after ONE MONTH of treatment thus far.  He still cannot put weight on it and it's still swollen.  I'm concerned about why it's taking so long to heal.
