The Story

Many of you may be aware of the extraordinary situation surrounding our beloved founding member of the Lyre Association of North America, Channa Seidenberg.  Please read the following letter written by former LANA Board member Cate Decker on behalf of Channa Seidenberg.

Whatever you can offer in terms of spiritual or financial support or both would be deeply appreciated at this challenging time for Channa.

Dear Friends of Channa,

As many of you know, our dear Channa Seidenberg has suffered a serious fracture of her femur while traveling in China. Because her condition doesn’t allow for further travel at this time, Channa is scheduled to have major surgery in Shijiazhuang this week and will recover there for at least two weeks before flying home. Her sons Julian and Dré are both with her.

The main focus right now is on Channa’s well-being and securing the best care possible for her.  Also of concern for the family are the rapidly mounting medical expenses. There are complications regarding the insurance, and since she is overseas, it is not at all clear that these costs will be covered. In addition, there is a substantial price tag attached to the special accommodations needed when Channa is ready to return home.

At this time, we are turning to you with a request for financial assistance.
Whatever you can offer will help defray some of the immediate costs. We are deeply grateful for your donations as well as your heart-felt prayers.
Channa has given so much to all of us over the years, with the lyre and singing, through her laughter, and her generosity as a thoughtful friend, therapist, and colleague.

It is our goal to help support Channa through this medical crisis so she can concentrate on healing and recovery.

With love and appreciation,
Cate Decker, on behalf of Channa Seidenberg

Greetings, All,

Cate Decker has shared with us that Channa and Julian have returned safely from China! The complicated travel arrangements went as planned, and now Channa is resting at Albany Medical Center. Although she is still exhausted from the long journey home, her spirits are up. Channa will most likely remain at the hospital for a few more days and then go to Camphill Copake to recuperate.

Thank you all for your love and prayers. The healing power of this wonderful, caring circle of friends is palpable!

[Previous update from Sheila Johns]
We’re very happy to be able to share recent news about Channa's health and travel status.

No doubt because of the intervention and blessing of light and love that has been surrounding Channa and her family these last weeks, seeming miracles have transpired.  Since her surgery in Shijiazhuang, China on February 24th, Channa has been healing more rapidly than the doctors were expecting, and after 2.5 weeks of recovery, she was given the green light to travel back to the United States in specially accommodated transports on Wednesday, March 15th.  Possibly the largest miracle is that the travel insurance company finally stepped up to the plate and made all of Channa's complex arrangements for her trip home!  We are very pleased to report that after nearly 30 hours of travel, Channa and her son Julian arrived safely at JFK and were transported by ground ambulance to Albany Medical Center where she is being reevaluated, as of this writing, in preparation for being welcomed into the loving care of the house parents and co-workers at Caspar House in Camphill Village, Copake, NY for the further time she needs for rehabilitation.

To all who have made financial contributions, the family is deeply grateful for every donation that has been made.  They will continue to need substantial support as they face the reality of lost income and the costs of rehabilitation.  Thank you each for your loving support during this time of extraordinary challenge for Channa and her family.

Dear friends,
The flower in the picture was made by the 12 year old granddaughter of my mothers hospital roommate. When she gave it to my mother she called her grandmother and told her that she loved her.
Our time here in China is coming to an end. As we are happy to return to our homes and to our loved ones, I speak for my immediate family in saying that this experience here has broadened our consciousness in a way we did not expect. Everyone we have encountered on this amazing journey has been so truly kind and caring towards us with only the selfless intention to help. To witness the way in which a culture has evolved spiritually gives us strength and hope, at a time when we must all keep our strength to persevere, and our hope for a better future.
We will keep you all posted as to our journey and the process of resettling once we are home.
We send much love and heartfelt thanks to you all for every kind word, donation and prayer.
Julian on behalf of The Seidenbergs
