Center for Girls is a small nonprofit organization working with the community to end human trafficking, gender-based violence and inequality in Chiang Rai (Northern Thailand).
Most of CFG's projects are sustainable, participatory, and take place over several years. But staff often encounter cases of individuals or families who need immediate assistance. One of our emergency cases is a seventeen-year-old girl named Hana.
Hana is a part of the Lahu hill tribe, an ethnic minority group that is widely marginalized in Thai society. She lives with her mother in a sub-district of Chiang Rai, since her father left to work in a far-away Province. Hana and her family have always experienced poverty and hardship, nevertheless, Hana is a diligent young woman who is determined to study and is currently completing ninth grade of secondary school.
There is often a great deal of uncertainty as to whether the family can continue to support Hana’s education, in particular they struggle with the cost of transport to and from school each day. Center for Girls are asking for donations to help raise 1,500 THB per month (~45 USD/ month) to fund Hanna's transport fees, food, and school uniforms (this amounts to 16,500 THB for 1 year (~470 USD) and 33,000 THB for 2 years (~935 USD), etc.), so that she doesn't have to give up her education.
A contribution of any amount would be hugely appreciated, because even a small donation can have a huge effect in the long term.
Please help us to ensure that Hanna doesn't have to drop out of school. Alternatively, please share this fundraiser with friends and family who may be able to help!
Thank you for your support.
