Welcome to Camp Turtle Island💦
Located at the intersection of County 4 and Highway 113 in the center of the White Earth Reservation in Minnesota (it's impossible to miss us).
I am proud to announce that after months of dedication and hard-work our community has built the camp to the point of being completely self-sustainable.
With all of our basic needs covered (Water, Food, Shelter, Power, Prayer, and Wifi 😉) we are now comfortable in inviting anyone and everyone out to camp.
Camp Turtle Island is all about self-empowerment, we live solely to build up and support any and ALL indigenous people along with our current and future Water Protectors.
When you arrive at camp you'll find that the weather is quite nice, sitting next to our beautiful wild rice lake and ironwood grove. We have spaces cleared for visitors to set up tents. For those of you looking to stay with us through the winter, we will teach you how to harvest ironwood poles with respect and have you build your own personal wigwam.
The wild ricing season begins at the end of this month, the camp will be focused on gathering natural foods and medicines before winter comes so that we can feed the local community, the camp, and other water protector camps around the US and Canada.
We stand to protect the Water, Land, and People from the greed and malice of corporations who seek to continue to destroy the Earth for their own petty gains.
We face the might of corporate America and its private army. The Oil Company Enbridge who plans to build their Line #3 pipeline under several hundred fresh water wild rice lakes, including Lake Superior, 10% of the worlds fresh surface water, by the end of next year. Enbridgetime and time again has proven themselves reckless and incompetent in their ability to correctly protect the land. We are also up against our old friends Tiger Swanthe private security company who has already begun to dispatch personnel to our region of Minnesota to protect pipeline assets.
We cannot face this alone, and we know for a fact from our experience at Standing Rock that we are far from alone.
The local police and national guard of Minnesota are not our enemies, they have in no way used force against us or harassed us (Minnesota also pulled their police force out of Standing Rock due to the treatment of the people at the camps). Unlike Morton County in North Dakota, we have an opportunity as Water Protectors to build a relationship with the Police to ask them to stand down when Enbridge and Tiger Swan asks them to meet our peaceful prayer camps and actions with force and violence. We believe there is a real chance here to find a middle ground.
This is a call out to Water Protectors along with US active and retired veterans--we need you now more than ever. The skills, knowledge, and experience you all have will be the turning of the tide in this fight.
If you were at Standing Rock in December when the army of the people, three thousand veterans, and four thousand water protectors strong united in prayer, ready to march into an icy hell, you witnessed the perseverance and dedication of our community leaders. And where was DAPL that day? Where was Morton County? Where was Tiger Swan? The National Guard?
They were nowhere to be found, they had abandoned their posts, their road blockades, the bridge, fox holes, gone. Vanished into the wind.
Why? I think you know exactly why. Because they were afraid. Afraid of what we a united people, Natives, Water Protectors, Citizens, and Soldiers could do when we put our bodies where our mouth is.
We have been and still are standing. Join us in thinking 7 generations ahead. Join us in our fight to protect Mother Earth and the sacred water, land, and life she gives to us freely!
