Hello friends! My name is Callie Wright. My girlfriend Celes and I are both transgender women, and we are both in severe need of surgical transition. Timing seems to have worked out such that we can have our respective surgeries right around the same time. This will result in less time off work for each of us, saving us substantial money. Plus we think it's ultra cute that we're getting vaginas together ;)
A bit about me. I'm a podcaster, public speaker, blogger, and general activisting type who spends a large proportion of my time outside my day job trying to educate and advocate for the lives and rights of queer and trans folks.
Celes is a computer programmer who used to run the support group at her college for trans and gender non-conforming folks, and now works with her alma mater's LGBTQ programs and services sitting on panels to educate and advocate for folks at the university.
We're not the poorest of folks, but the cost of these things (even with insurance covering a large portion) is out of sight for us to afford on our own unless we want to take on massive debt (not sure we even could if we wanted to). This is where you come in! We've created an exhaustive budget of what everything is going to cost us. This is inclusive of insurance co-pays and deductibles, living, travel, and food expenses for the entire month we will need to be away from home for the surgery and recovery period (as well as for the person who will be our caretaker while we're recovering).
The budget will be adjusted as we get closer and get a more realistic idea of costs. We may find cheaper flights, room and board, we may get raises at work, a surprise drop in surgery costs (right, haha). We are going as strict as possible on our budgets to save money of our own to help, but there's just no way we could do it on our own.
If we by some miracle raise more money than we need, or if through genius financial smarts we come in under budget, every penny left over will be donated to trans lifeline, the only suicide prevention hotline designed for and run by transgender people.
We're beyond grateful for any help at all, and we promise we WILL pay it forward later in life when we are in a position to do so. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
