We have been riding the WAVE buses for months talking with bus riders about who they are and why they ride and wrote the story Grace, Gratitude and Family on the Public Buses in Mobile
. Public transportation in Mobile is not convenient or easy and recent funding have made it even harder. There are few stops with shelters or benches, so riders have to stand for 15-45 minutes, or sit on a curb next to the street, waiting on the next bus in the heat, sun, cold or rain. Benches is one of the things they say they need. We can't make riding the bus easier, provide shelter from the rain, or even raise enough money to put a bench at every stop, but the few we put out will make a difference to a rider that needs rest. It’s a start. Each bench costs $850, so our $2550 goal will buy three benches. We also have "A Ramblin' Night at the Steeple" benefit on Saturday August 27 at The Steeple in Mobile. Music by Shawn Mullins, The Mulligan Brothers and Eric Erdman. Tickets and more information at www.TheSouthernRambler.com.
