This page has been created for our dear friends Beth and Brian and their beautiful family. Brian is a Chief Warrant Officer and Blackhawk Instructor Pilot for the United States Army. Together they have a baby boy, Nicholas, who will turn 1 in July, and a little girl on the way!
In July 2014, Brian was diagnosed with Stage 3c Malignant Melanoma with the primary lesion site being Stage 4. He had 2 separate surgeries to remove the cancer, which had metastasized. After recovery, Brian started a clinical trial in Tampa, FL to fight any remaining cancer cells in his body. In January 2015, Beth and Brian were married. After the wedding, they purchased a home together in Clarksville to be near Brian’s Army post. In July 2015 they welcomed their son Nicholas into the world and they were so excited to start their life as a family of 3. That same month Brian had a life threatening reaction to the treatment he had been receiving in Tampa. He had to be removed from the clinical trial and their hope was that the treatment he had received would be enough to keep the cancer at bay.
In March 2016, they found out that they were expecting another baby due in November. This time, a little girl! Shortly after, Brian received orders to move to Fort Wainwright, Alaska. They sold their home and Beth quit her job; they were all set for their move to come in August of this year. In May 2016, Brian had his latest quarterly CT scan completed, and unfortunately the scan showed 8-10 lesions in his liver. He had the lesions biopsied the following week and they were devastated to learn that the cancer had returned as Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma.
So here they are in June of 2016 with their house sold, a one-year-old boy, a girl on the way, his future in the army uncertain, and the return of his cancer. As of today, Brian's liver is functioning normally and his blood work looks good, but there is no prognosis at this time. They have a long, hard battle ahead of them with so many uncertainties.
We want to do something special for these amazing friends. Due to a difficult pregnancy and Brian’s cancer, Beth and Brian were never able to go on a honeymoon. They have had to endure so much over the last 2 years; trials in which many couples do not have to face in their entire lives together. They planned on taking this vacation one day, and although they wanted to wait until their kids were older, their time is more uncertain now than ever. Any amount that you can donate would go towards Beth and Brian taking a brief break from reality to embark on a vacation where they could spend quality time together. Please help us give them this special gift.
