Posted on March 28, 2017Layla's resilience and strength continues to amaze us!! Our family has been blown away by the amount of support from our friends and family and by the faithfulness of God! Layla is now off oxygen for the majority of the day, if not the entire day, only using it if needed. The main focus over the past few days has been her feedings. The medical team would like for her to take 54ml (about 2 ounces) from the bottle every 2-3 hrs. As her little body is fighting so hard to recover, she sometimes is too tired to eat, or is unable to keep it down so they are still having to use a feeding tube. She has been moved from the ICU to intermediate level care, which means she is improving! Praise God!
After almost a week of not getting to hold their baby, Brett and Jules were finally able to hold and snuggle their sweet little girl! They have had to learn new techniques for holding her because she is still very fragile, but as you can imagine they were overjoyed just to have her in their arms!
Please continue to pray for full healing and complete recovery for our precious Layla. She has done so well and we know that God continues to hold her in His hands during the recovery process. We ask that you would pray for freedom from pain and that Layla would be comfortable as her body heals. Pray that her little tummy would tolerate her feedings and that she would get the nutrition she needs to recover from the surgery and grow more each day! Please continue to pray for wisdom for the medical team and that their decisions would be guided by the Lord. Please pray for Brett, Jules, and Vinny as they continue to learn how to best care for their sweet baby.
Thank you again for following our page, for lifting Layla up in prayer, and supporting the Schweigers as they go through this difficult time! We have all felt so loved and are so thankful! Please continue to follow and share our page and we will keep you posted on Layla's progress!

Posted on March 23, 2017Thank you all for your continued prayer! Layla continues to amaze us with her strength! She is now 5 days post open heart surgery and yesterday, she was able to have her abdominal drains removed as the bleeding and swelling from the surgery was minimal. She also had the pacing wires removed as her little heart is functioning great on its own! A feeding tube was placed through her nose, down into her stomach so that she can be fed formula and her tummy can start working again! Layla has been breathing more and more on her own and this morning, the medical team removed the ventilator (which was breathing for her) and placed her on oxygen! This is all such great news and Layla is making leaps and bounds towards full recovery each day!
Today was an especially big day for Layla and for the Schweiger/Fratesi family, as Father Joseph from the Cathedral of Saint Andrew came and baptized her and anointed her with oil. This signifies God's protection over Layla's salvation and body, as well as her family's commitment to raising her in the church. Layla's life is in the hands of God and He is watching over and protecting her each step of the way!
Please continue to pray for healing of sweet Layla's heart and strengthening of her body. Pray also for comfort for Layla and that her body would be free of pain. She is doing great, however the road to full recovery is a long one and we must take it one day at a time! Please continue to pray for Brett and Jules as they are spending long days and nights at the hospital and are trying to adjust to caring for their baby. Please also pray for Vinny, their 3 (almost 4) year old son who misses his parents and doesn't understand all that is going on.
Brett and Jules, and the entire Schweiger/Fratesi family, are so so thankful for all of you and the support you have shown us! We have been blown away by the power of prayer and the power of sharing each other's burdens! We are confident that God has big plans for his little angel Layla and we will continue to provide updates on her healing journey.

Posted on March 21, 2017Layla is such a little fighter and God is SO good!! Today is day 3 post open heart surgery and everything is going as planned. The doctors closed her chest yesterday as the swelling and bleeding from the procedure were down and her body is healing as they had hoped. An echocardiogram this morning showed that her heart is functioning well and there is good blood flow through her repaired aortic arch and good closure of the ventricular septal defect! The medical team is slowly weaning her off of sedation so that she can begin breathing on her own! Layla opened her eyes today and looked around at mom and dad, seemingly more alert than before the surgery! She is SO beautiful even despite all the tape, tubes, bruising, and swelling on her body. The Schweiger/Fratesi family is full of faith and hope as we continue to pray for complete recovery of this precious baby girl! However, there is still a long way to go and the road to recovery will not be easy. The doctors have indicated that she will will have to stay in the hospital for another 2 weeks so they can continue to monitor her progress and healing. Our family is asking that you continue to pray for healing of Layla's heart and body after undergoing such a complex procedure, for wisdom for the medical team caring for her, and for strength and peace for the Schweiger/Fratesi family. Also pray that Layla will have the strength to breathe on her own and be strong enough to be taken off the ventilator. Pray that she will be free of pain and that her body will continue to respond well to all of the interventions and medications!
Our family is so so thankful to all who have chosen to partner with us in prayer and/or financially!! It means so much to us and to sweet Layla and we are amazed at the support we have received.
We also want to thank the amazing medical team (doctors, nurses, techs, etc.) at Arkansas Children's Hospital! It is so reassuring to know our baby girl is in good hands!
Please share this page with family and friends and consider helping this family as they endure this difficult time! 💗
