The Story

If there is one thing we have learned in our lives as we follow Jesus it is this: expect the unexpected!

Over the past six years, we have added four children to our family through adoption (two boys from South Korea, two girls from China) and we have seen God do abundantly more than we asked or imagined.  Our faith has grown and our eyes have been opened to the needs of children around the world.  We are not the same people we once were, and God has broken our hearts for the thousands of children without a family.  We have been blessed beyond our wildest dreams with our four children and we often look around with wonder and remember a time when we wondered if we would ever have any children at all!

We brought Olivia, age 3, home from China in May 2015, and when we got home we both agreed we were done.  Maybe forever, maybe for a time, but we both said that if we adopted again it would be years and years down the road.

I am chuckling just writing that!

We have been surprised by God many times before, and we are thrilled to say He has done it again!  A very special boy has grabbed our hearts and we believe that the Lord would have us bring him home to join our family.  We are overjoyed at the thought that we get to be his Mom and Dad!  He has waited so long for the love of a family and we intend to make up for lost time!

God used a very special lady to bring this little boy, Seth, to us.  She visited him in his orphanage in China, loved him, held him, cared for him and faithfully prayed for a family for him.  We thank God for how He used Ashley to bring Seth to us.  He has shown us the amazing ways He works through His church to accomplish His will.

Seth is a very special little boy.  He is almost 7 years old and has spent most of his life in a crib.  It hurts my heart to even write that.  It is a life no child should face.  Seth is blind, and cannot talk or walk.  We don't know if that will ever change, but we know this - he is a treasure, loved by Almighty God, and seeing just small glimpses of him through videos and pictures we know we are going to be changed forever by this amazing little boy.  We have already been changed!

With no thoughts of adoption on the horizon, we had not been planning financially for this.  After our first adoption meeting over 7 years ago, I wept at the thought of how much it would cost as I wondered how we would manage.  Now, 4 adoptions later, that fear has been replaced by faith as we have seen the hand of God in our lives as He has faithfully provided all we need each and every time to bring our children home.  We have no doubt He will do this again and we trust Him to do what we cannot.

If you are able to help us bring Seth home, we would be so grateful.  We will be working as quickly as we can to bring him home and would so appreciate your prayers for this process.  Please pray as well for our four children and the changes that will come to our family.  We look forward to the day when our FIVE children are all together at last!

This is a difficult update to write and certainly not the one we hoped to be writing.  A week ago we received a phone call letting us know that our sweet Seth had passed away quite suddenly.  We have cried many tears and will continue to in the days and weeks ahead, because truly we loved this little boy.  He changed our worlds and we will never forget him.

We appreciate your prayers in the days ahead as we seek the Lord and try to discern what is next for our family.  Seth is not interchangeable with another child - we truly wanted just him.  Yet at the same time we wrestle with the knowledge that so many precious children wait for a family.  We do not know where the Lord will take us in the coming days but we pray that we will be faithful to listen and follow Him with abandon.  We thank God so much for the chance we had to love Seth!  We praise God for His faithfulness and love in these difficult, sad days and trust that His Word and His promises remain as true as ever.

Thank you for journeying with us towards bringing Seth home.  We will never forget the kindness shown to us, the love poured out for Seth, the many, many people who stepped up and helped us.  We saw prayers answered and were humbled by God's goodness.  Truly, thank you for walking this road with us.

Many blessings,
The Hunt Family

The days are flying by and we continue to make progress every day towards bringing Seth home!  We were unbelievably blessed by God in our house search and found one so quickly we couldn't believe it!  It is a wonderful home and everything has come together so well we have just been in awe.  We close on our new house in one week and plan to move in as quickly as we can.

The main reason we are so thrilled to be moving so quickly is that we had to move in order to finish our home study.  This is a huge part of the process to bring Seth home and we hope to finish our home study as fast as possible.  We have completed a huge chunk of the paperwork for this but still have more to go - pray for perseverance and time to complete as much as we can before we move!  Things are so busy these days and I find my head spinning with a "to do" list around the clock!

Once our home study is complete we can submit our paperwork to US immigration.  We have done this 4 times already but still all the steps start to blur together around this point!  We are still hopeful that Seth will join our family this year.

Some specific prayer requests:

  • Pray that we are able to complete our home study paperwork in a timely manner
  • There is a possibility that Seth may be moved to an orphanage that would be a much better fit for his needs - please pray with us that this is able to happen!
  • Pray for our kids - some of them really struggle with change and there is a lot of that happening right now with the move and Seth joining our family.
We are overwhelmed by the love and support we have received and by the many gracious donations we have been given.  There was a time not long ago when I had to send an almost $2000 payment to our agency and I wasn't sure what I would do.  I must admit my faith was so small and worry was creeping in....but God in His faithfulness provided through so many people all that we need.  We are so very grateful and humbled!
