On July 22nd, a negligent driver collided with the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation's van for our after-school programs. Even though our 12-passenger van was totalled, we're only receiving $5,000 from our insurance company due to the age of the vehicle. We're hoping that our community can help us out with the rest!
The Bloomfield Garfield Corporation runs an After School Program at Arsenal Elementary School. The program is a friendly, nurturing environment for K-5th graders in need of academic enrichment. Every day includes homework help, reading time, science activities, recreation, and a nutritious dinner and snacks. The children at Arsenal are bused to school each morning from their Bloomfield, Garfield and Lawrenceville neighborhoods by the Pittsburgh Public School buses. However in the evening, at the end of the After School program, the children are taken home by the BGC van. Without the use of the van, the children would not be able to attend this invaluable program. The van is also used for fun field trips and transportation for summer camp children.
