The key to holding a successful fundraiser is knowing how to reach people who will support and help push your cause. One of the best ways to get the news out about your cause is through social networking sites. In this blog we wanted to focus on how to fundraise with twitter.
Twitter is a real time information network that connects you to the latest information, ideas, and opinions. Twitter is a rapidly growing site that allows you to send out a small burst of information in 140 characters or less. It might seem impossible to get your point across in 140 characters, but its actually easier than you think.
The most important thing to do when tweeting your cause is to come up with descriptive key words. These key words should be arranged in such a way that they accurately describe your fundraiser AND how to help.
Heres an example of how to raise funds with Twitter.
Tom starts a free online medical expense fundraiser for his best friend Frank. Frank was climbing a tree and accidentally fell off resulting in a broken finger and hundreds of dollars in medical bills. Tom decides to use Twitter to tell all of his and Franks friends about the fundraiser.
Tom Tweets “RT #HelpFrank raise money for medical bills on https://www.YouCaring.com” THEN attaches a Link to Franks personal fundraising page.
RT- Tells everyone who reads Toms tweet to “re-tweet” to all of their friends.
#HelpFrank – This is called hash tagging and can be read about on our blog “Using Social Networking to Fundraise.” It helps people find your topic out of the millions tweeted about everyday.
https://www.YouCaring.com – Helps potential medical expense donors find Frank’s fundraiser when searching for fundraising websites
Attaching the link- This allows people to go directly to Franks fundraiser without having to search for it and allows them to “re-tweet” directly to his fundraiser.
