How to Overcome “Writer’s Block”
To help you overcome the obstacle of writing your story, we recently collaborated with one of the world’s best design firms, Carbon Five. Carbon Five uses a human-centered design thinking process, which means that they focus on understanding the key qualities of the person who they are helping (you) and tailor a solution that will help solve your problem or question; in this case (how do I write the best possible story for my campaign?).
In order to get a better sense of the YouCaring community, Carbon Five asked us about key traits of YouCaring members. The word that kept coming up was “empathy.” So this became our focus.
Merriam Webster defines the word empathy as, “…the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another…”
Why Empathy is Key To Writing a Successful Story?
It’s clear that empathy is at the heart of the YouCaring community. Whether you’re running a campaign for a loved one or donating to one, you cannot help but feel connected to someone’s pain, struggle or their triumph.
Fundraiser sentiments like, “my friend was in so much pain, so I started a campaign to help alleviate it” and donor sentiments like “I felt like people really understood what I was going through and this greatly helped me heal” are some of the most common that we receive at YouCaring. So with this in mind, we set out to explore how to use empathy as a powerful storytelling tool.

This Carbon Five collaboration is extremely exciting for us at YouCaring because “empathy” is at the core of both our and Carbon Fives’ business.
