Giving back doesn’t have to be hard work. There are plenty of ways to help those in need, many of which require little time or effort. Whether it be turning daily tasks into charitable efforts or dedicating a current hobby to the greater good, almost anyone can find a creative and easy way to give to charity and make their mark on the world.
1. Crafting for Good
Are your friends tired of being on the receiving end of your DIY projects? Well, now you can focus your efforts on giving back to charity instead. There are a number of organizations that accept handmade crafts, including toys for infants and children, or clothing for the homeless. Charities like Contagious Hope Ministries provide clothes, blankets, and quilts for children in orphanages around the world, and Crochet for Cancer accepts crocheted, knitted, and sewn items for people being treated with cancer who could use a little cheer.
2. Free Rice
Quiz masters can use the website Free Rice in order to feed people in impoverished areas. For every question that you answer correctly, food will be donated through the World Food Programme to those in need. This is a double whammy, as you’ll help feed the hungry while sharpening your knowledge!
3. Frequent Flyer
If you’re a high flyer with a surplus of miles, you can always pass them forward. Most airlines feature a miles-for-charity option as part of their frequent flyer programs, where members can donate to a cause of their choice. Examples include the American Airlines AAdvantage program, which provides free transport for children and families in need, or Delta’s SkyMiles program which can donate a minimum of 5,000 miles to selected charities, including the Make-A-Wish foundation.
4. Open Tab
For anyone who finds themselves with a million tabs open, there’s now an easy way to donate to charity. Tab for a Cause is a browser extension that raises money with every tab you open. Donations go to Save the Children, Human Rights Watch, Water.org, Conservation International, and more.
5. Charity Wedding
If you’re about to get married, then your wedding is a great opportunity to give back. Guests can bring canned goods, coats, shoes, or other essentials to your wedding shower for you to donate to a local charity drive. Other ideas include setting up a charitable registry, using a non-profit as a venue, donating your bridal gown, or even volunteering on your honeymoon.
6. Dog Jog
Take walking your dog to the next level. You and your canine friend can participate in one of the many dog runs held across the country, promoting awareness for shelters, animal well-being, or a cause of your choice. Typically ranging from 5-10k, you can either choose a shelter dog or your own dog to accompany you on your trek.
7. Charity Miles
Fitness trackers are a great way to motivate people to work out. But now you can donate to charity and get into shape. An app called Charity Miles keeps track of how far you walk, run, or bike, and donates money to the charity of your choice for every mile you complete.
