As healthcare costs continue to rise, more Americans with serious medical needs are turning to crowdfunding as a financial safety net. According to a 2016 report issued by The Federal Reserve, 47% of Americans can’t afford $400 in case of an emergency. With healthcare costs increasingly falling on the shoulders of consumers, we believe there’s a lot of work to be done in this space.
Since 2011, YouCaring has been a leader in free online crowdfunding, having raised more than $550 million in support of individuals, families, communities, and nonprofits looking to save lives, remember loved ones, recover from disasters, and fund humanitarian efforts. Since then, we’ve also grown to become one of the foremost sites for medical crowdfunding. This mission is why we continue to keep our platform free, and why we became a Certified B Corporation®, leveraging business for social good.
Today, I’m very excited to announce that we’ve acquired GiveForward, a pioneer in medical crowdfunding for individuals. With nearly a decade of experience in the space, roughly 70% of GiveForward’s fundraising efforts are medical in nature. Most importantly, the GiveForward brand and what it stands for couldn’t be more aligned with who we are and what we do here at YouCaring.
Together, we have helped people around the world raise nearly $800 million for critical personal, medical, and charitable causes. By combining our global communities, we’re confident we’ll be better able to serve our members, and expand YouCaring’s fundraising and donor reach.
Since we don’t charge any platform fees (we are free to use), GiveForward users will also be able to keep more of the money they raise. They’ll also have access to our real-time customer service, and the ability to reach a donor pool of six million strong.
