There are no guarantees when it comes to online fundraising, some fundraisers hit it out of the park while others just cant seem to gain any ground. Lets be honest, the second is just plain frustrating, and can be a real discouragement. So, what do you do when your fundraiser does not reach its goal?
There are really only a few major factors in an online fundraising campaign.
1. How many potential donors are reached.
2. How many potential donors are turned to actual donations.
Generally, an unsuccessful fundraising campaign is weak in one or the other.
Your fundraiser may have had 100% of the people reached donate, but because so few people knew about it there were not enough donations made. Or, the opposite happened, you reached thousands of people, but none of them donated to your cause leaving you empty handed.
Here are a few tips for your next fundraiser.
– Spend more time reaching your donors. It’s easy to over-look spreading the news about your fundraiser, and it can also seem like a lot of work. You’re going to have to be creative, donors need to be reached on their level and not all donors can be reached through social networking sites like Facebook. Try personal emails, or even making an awareness flyer to post in high traffic areas like a local Starbucks.
– Make sure that you place a value on your potential donors. If you have not placed enough urgency on the importance of receiving donations and just how much you need the donors, they may not feel a need to donate to your cause. Try not to be overwhelming or pushy, and always remember a “Thank You!”.
