A Unique Fundraiser For A Very Loved Writer.
Here at YouCaring.com we love to hear about fundraisers who are doing something new and unique. Today we want to feature a group of people who are joining together to help their good friend beat colon cancer, using free online fundraising.
Online fundraising gives fundraisers the ability to raise money and gain support for their cause in their own way. This is because a free online fundraising page can be partnered with almost any type of fundraiser. This gives people the freedom to do something new, and raise money in a way that fits their cause best.
Meet Jay Lake. Jay is a very accomplished science fiction writer who has impacted the lives of thousands of avid readers. In April of 2008, Jay was diagnosed with colon cancer. Over time and after multiple surgeries and treatments, Jay’s cancer has turned from a single tumor to metastatic disease affecting the lung and liver. Jay is currently progressing through his fourth round of chemotherapy, but the doctors are not seeing and sign of recovery and are skeptical if it is working.
Because of this, Jay has begun to research alternative forms of treatment. They soon found a new treatment called genome sequencing. Genome sequencing will allow the doctors to better understand Jay’s genetics which will then allow then to treat him in was that were not considered before.
To cover the expenses of this new treatment and his current health care, a group of close friends have come together to create a very unique online fundraiser. To raise money for Jay they have solicited the help of other very popular writers to perform an “Act of Whimsy”. These acts will take place once a fundraising goal is met, as an incentive for supporters to donate to Jay’s cause.
One example of an act, is after meeting $2,000 NY Times best selling author Tobias S. Buckell will share one of his early unreleased works as an E-book. This E-book will be available for all who have donated to Jay’s cause.
The fundraiser has already raised over $36,000, and is gaining more and more attention every day. To visit Jay’s fundraiser go to Sequence a Science Fiction Writer, you can donate to Jay’s cause and get in on some of these great “Acts of Whimsy”.
