Huey P. Newton argued, “The revolution has always been in the hands of the young. The young always inherit the revolution.” We in Black Lives Matter-Los Angeles share this sentiment, which is why we're organizing an exciting, weeklong "pre-summer" Youth Activist Camp in South Los Angeles. BLMLA_YAC is intended for Black youth ages 10-18 who are interested in making Black lives matter in their social groups, schools, and communities. In addition to learning strategies for organizing social justice campaigns and direct action tactics, the camp will focus on community building, skill-sharing, critical literacy, public speaking, as well as techniques for developing healthy collective- and self-care practices.
The BLMLA Youth Activist Camp is being planned for June 12 to June 16, 2017, from 10am to 4pm each day. All youth attendees will be served a breakfast snack, lunch, and afternoon snack. Attendance is free of charge, but we ask that all youth please bring a pen or a pencil and notepaper with you each day.
Your generous contributions will support our Youth Activist Camp by ensuring that we are able to feed attendees lunch and two snacks each day for the week. In addition, we plan to provide t-shirts for the youth and other educational materials necessary for the resistance space to function.
In Solidarity!
