Powerful Beyond Measure: Youth Freedom School is a week long program created and implemented by Black Lives Matter Cincinnati members and volunteer teachers. The school is designed to help youth (K-12) identify injustice in their communities and teach them tactics to stand up against them in order to create more just communities. The week-long summer program will feature interactive lessons, activities, readings, and field trips centered on discussing social justice problems and spreading awareness. The program’s goal is to enable and engage our students with the tools they need to combat institutionalized oppression in their neighborhoods, classrooms and all over the world. Students will have a platform to draw from their own experiences and the experiences of others to motivate, cultivate, empathize and inspire each other. Along with credited volunteer hours, high school students will be given the opportunity to apply for an internship with a $300 stipend to teach and mentor K-8 students in the afternoon portion of the Freedom School program.
We are raising money to fund our six high school internships, pay for bus fare for youth, and for the cost of breakfast, lunch, and snack (outside of food donations) for the week.
