In May 2018, a group of 14 UMass Boston students and a faculty advisor will be traveling to partner with an organization making efforts to empower girls through access to quality education, exposure to the arts and more. This organization works diligently with their community to provide resources to families facing poverty in hopes of creating a solution to generational poverty.
This trip will provide students with the opportunity to not only work with an organization that is positively impacting its community, but to witness first-hand the efforts toward challenging cultural norms and achieving gender equality.
Each participant on the trip has two significant roles: to volunteer their time to the community and to raise the necessary funds to make the trip possible. I invite you to partner with us in our efforts, any support that can be given will be a tremendous help to our cause.

**Beacon Voyages for Service (BVS) is a program within the Office of Student Leadership and Community Engagement at UMass Boston that coordinates Alternative Break programs. These trips give students the opportunity to take part in service trips all over the country and the world. All of the trips take place during school breaks. BVS serves to encourage participation in a social justice movement through on-campus commitments during fall, winter, spring or summer breaks.
