The Story

Bandit's Adoption and Rescue of K-9s (BARK) and Alpha Dog Club will begin an exciting new partnership in January 2016, which will allow BARK dogs to have weekly 30-minute assisted swim sessions at a greatly reduced rate! For just $100 a week, four lucky BARK dogs will get a much-needed break from the kennel environment and enjoy a new experience in an indoor, heated, saline swimming pool (unique to Alpha Dog Club in the Richmond area). This 30-minute therapeutic session will greatly benefit dogs like Addie, Rocky 2, and Vivian who suffer from arthritis and other degenerative diseases that make extended exercise painful and tiresome. It can also just be a fun new adventure with important mental and physical stimulation for dogs like Elvis, Phoebe, and Rudy 2, who simply become depressed and withdrawn after spending months in a kennel environment. Our initial goal is to raise $2500 to ensure that we, as an organization, can commit to sending four BARK dogs a week (participants will vary throughout the project) for the next six months to Alpha Dog Club to take advantage of this great opportunity. Please consider donating towards this very worthy project! BARK is a 501(c)3 organization, non-profit tax ID 90-0195675, and your donation may be tax deductible. We've officially completed our second week of swim session at Alpha Dog Club and it's been a huge success! Vivian, Billy, Boodrow, Sully, Pumpkin, Stubbs, and Dodi have all enjoyed a 30-minute swim in their indoor, heated, saline pool. While swimming may be a little strange at first, everyone seemed to really get the hang of it - Pumpkin was a natural and Billy seemed to really enjoy his second session! Please check out BARK's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/barkva) to view the videos and keep up to date with the coming swim sessions! If you'd like to sponsor additional sessions, we would greatly appreciate it!

We obviously weren't able to start our weekly swim session this week due to the snow, but we're looking forward to next Friday (1/29)! We'll share pictures and videos here and on our Facebook page, so keep an eye out! Thanks again for your continued support. We can't wait to start!

This Friday, January 22, will be the first day of our partnership with Alpha Dog Club. We are so excited to see our pups enjoying their 30-minute swim sessions! Each week, we'll hold a spot for Vivian, who is in foster and has some degenerative mobility issues. The vets believe that swim therapy will greatly benefit her and extend her mobility. Our amazing volunteer Pam will also be taking Rocky 2, Rowdy, and Boodrow. Look for videos of their swims on our Facebook page after Friday! Thanks, as aways, for your support!
