Donna K Douglas was a pioneer activist in the Bakersfield LGBTQ community, and one of the founders of our organization. She was also a fantastic nurse, initially in the field of gerontology, and later in hospice care. We are proud to have known and loved Donna, and we miss her unique sense of humor as well as her commitment to people. She was our friend, sister, aunt, cousin and love. We want to keep her spirit alive.
Bakersfield has created the Donna K Douglas Scholarship to identify and honor local nursing students. We think she would love to help an aspiring student, as she was assisted so many years ago.
We invite you to attend a fundraising gathering on June 25, 5pm, at Shelby & Mary's home, to make a contribution to this effort. If you are unable at attend that event, please consider donating here in Donna's honor. scholarships in coming years. The initial amount will cover a $1000 scholarship this year, and will lay the ground work for future years. All funds raised will go into a separate fund to be used ONLY for this scholarship. Your donation to this Bakersfield LGBTQ fundraiser is tax deductible as allowed by law.
