It’s hard to believe, but this is actually happening. This morning we received an email saying we had been chosen by a birth mother. We were amazed to have been matched so quickly, but we were shocked to learn the baby is seven days old. The parental rights have already been relinquished, and they are simply waiting for a family to agree to take the baby.
Our hearts and heads are reeling from the emotion of today. After speaking with our agency, friends, family, and the baby’s doctors, we have decided we are going to adopt this precious little boy.
It had been our intent to apply for different grants and loans, thinking we would have more time to prepare (Katie printed out the first application just yesterday). But now there is no time. We need around $30,000, and we need it by the end of this week.
That amount is huge, and we know it’s a challenge. But God has been so good thus far, and this particular adoption situation has been the answer to so many of our specific prayers. We believe He can do it. We believe He will do it.
We’ve set up a YouCaring page to easily coordinate the funds, and we invite you all to get creative with us. Share this post, maybe ask your congregations if they’d be willing to do a special collection. We would be eternally grateful for any help you can give.
It’s 11:30pm and we’re buying plane tickets for 7am tomorrow morning. Nothing’s packed and we’ve got all sorts of plans to change. We are excited and nervous and scared to death. But it feels right, and it’s certainly about time.
Here we go.
