The Story

Imagine being kicked out of your home but moving to a comfy tent where food is delivered to your door each day. One day, your tent is gone and you need to figure out where the nearest grocery store is.

This is the plight of relocated Burrowing Owls, rescued from death at construction sites. Audubon Arizona's Downtown Owls program works with Wild at Heart, the City of Phoenix, and volunteers from the community to give these displaced owls a second chance.

Thanks to new data, we’ve learned that relocated Burrowing Owls benefit from supplemental feeding—that is, having food brought to the release tent site after the tent is gone to ease their transition into finding their own food from local sources. Turns out that this makes a significant difference in owl survival rates, and we simply cannot ignore that. There are currently seven owl tents (tent sites) requiring at minimum an extra month of daily feeding that we didn’t budget for--and room service isn’t cheap!

Will you help make a difference for relocated Burrowing Owls? Any amount will help. The owls can’t thank you but we can: THANK YOU!

We did it!

Thanks to dedicated supporters like you, we achieved our $5,000 goal. All 100 of our recently relocated Burrowing Owls across the Valley have been able to get supplemental feedings for the month, which wasn't previously possible.

The owls' journey isn't over, but their chances of success are much stronger now than ever before. We could not have done it without you.

On behalf of all 100 fed and happy owls, thank you!

Almost there!

We only need to raise $651–that's one month's food for 13 more owls–to reach our goal.

Consider sponsoring one owl with a $50 donation, or contribute any amount. Let's see if we can reach our goal by Earth Day, this Sunday!

Thank you to everyone who has given so far. Please share your support through social media, email, or face-to-face, to ensure these Burrowing Owls have the best chance of success in their new environment.

On behalf of the owls, thank you!

Over half way there!

In just a few days, you have donated enough to feed just over 51 of the 100 relocated Burrowing Owls for an entire month. Thank you!

We can't slow down now. Please keep the momentum going and share this cause with your friends, family, and fellow conservationists.

Every $50 covers a month's worth of food for one owl.

Your donations are not only going to the success of our 100 relocated owls, but also to their unhatched chicks. The mothers are incubating their eggs, and leaving them too long to find something to eat might mean those eggs don't hatch.

These owls have come a long way– from dangerous construction sites, to Wild at Heart's rescue aviary, and finally to artificial burrows in their new homes. Help us keep their journey from coming to a premature end.

On behalf of 100 owls, thank you!
