The Story

In August of 2015, at age 40, Arthur sensed that something was off with his body. What started as a simple twitch in his foot at the gym quickly became more profound and scary each week that passed. As most of you know, Arthur has dedicated much of his life to physical fitness and helping others improve their health and wellness, so he knew something was wrong. In September he visited multiple specialists, and after months of grueling tests, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, more commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease.

The past few months have taken a significant toll on Arthur physically. However, in true Arthur fashion his spirits are high, his sense of humor is fully intact, and his dedication to taking his diagnosis head on is inspiring beyond words. For Arthur and Chelsey the challenges have been great in a short period of time. Thank God for Chelsey! She is wise beyond her years, totally selfless, and one of the most loyal and compassionate people on this planet. Arthur is truly fortunate to have Chelsey by his side. There is another silver lining to be grateful for… a baby boy is on the way.

This August 8th, Arthur and Chelsey are preparing to bring their first child, Arthur K Saran Jr., into the world. It's been an emotional time for Arthur and Chelsey and although they would never ask for it, it's time for us to help support them. The goal of this campaign is to immediately improve Arthur and Chelsey's living situation. Today they live on the second story of an apartment complex. The staircases are becoming increasingly dangerous for Arthur to navigate. With the baby on the way we want to make sure they are in an accessible apartment or home, improving their quality of life and allowing them to focus on what's truly important.

Anything you can give is appreciated. Please keep Arthur and Chelsey in your thoughts and prayers, and if anybody can beat this we all know it's Arthur.

Jeff and I would like to thank each and every one of Arthur's supporters for your financial and emotional support for Arthur and his family these past 8 months as they take ALS head on. Your support has provided an incredible amount of comfort, opportunity, and hope to Arthur and his family.
At the end of last July we, all of us in his corner, were able to move Arthur and Chelsey (38 weeks pregnant at the time) into a beautiful, ground level, handicapped accessible apartment in Warwick, RI. This simple move improved their quality of life immediately and immeasurably as they prepared for the birth of their son. As many of you know they welcomed their beautiful and healthy baby boy, Arthur K Saran Jr., into the world on August, 11th, 2016.
In September Arthur had his initial stem cell harvesting surgery in NYC, which cost $15,000. Since September Arthur has received two stem cell treatments, which cost $1,000 per treatment, and is scheduled to receive his third treatment today.  As far as we know he is the only patient in the world receiving consecutive stem cell treatments for ALS. Being at the forefront of this is physically and financially risky, however the exciting improvements Arthur has already experienced include ability to flex biceps and engage abs, improved breathing, swallowing and range of motion with elbows and shoulders.

Given these improvements Arthur and his Neurologist have made the decision to move forward with monthly stem cell treatments in the hopes that he will experience faster and more drastic improvements. He and his family's spirits are hopeful in light of the improvements mentioned above thanks to your support making it possible for him to get these treatments.
As you all know Arthur and Chelsey are fighters and have been extremely disciplined through this entire journey as it relates to his care. We could use your help in continuing to share this fundraising page to continue to help create awareness for Arthur's journey. Also, ff you have any ideas for a fundraiser or event let Jeff or I know, we'd love to support any ideas or opportunities you may be thinking of.
Last but certainly not least, reach out to Arthur, send him a card, send him your love, drop by his apartment, meet his baby boy. I know that a lot of love and laughs are the best gifts we can provide him and Chelsey right now.

Thanks for continued support, we sincerely appreciate all of you.

An update from Chelsey;

We would like to thank Matt Kaplan and Jeff Caruso for explaining to Arthur the importance of launching the YouCaring Campaign for himself and his family. Also getting together with Jay Salera to organize the next steps. Because of the generous donations received through the YouCaring Campaign we were able to move into a handicap accessible one floor apartment.

Due to the major friendships Arthur has, the YouCaring Campaign was the tip of the iceberg. We want to thank Mike Calabro, Jay Salera and Courtney Grady as well as all of the people and businesses involved who donated or participated in various ways organizing the first fundraiser at The Last Resort RI on August 23, 2016.

We'd also like to thank Andy Calcione for organizing a second fundraiser for Arthur's cause at the Veterans Memorial Ice Rink in Cranston on August 27, 2016. This was a neat opportunity for both young and old hockey fans to get on the ice and skate for ALS.

These fundraisers could not have happened at a better time because Arthur Kenneth Saran Jr. was welcomed into the word on August 11, 2016 at 5:28AM. He was 20 inches long and weighed 7lbs. 14oz.

We want to continually thank everyone for their support in the future spiritually and financially as it all helps through these challenging times.

Love,

Chelsey, Arthur, and Arthur Jr.

A message from Chelsey;

"On July 19th Arthur had his appointment with the top ALS specialist in the country at Mass General. They told him that he is very in tune with knowing what his body is doing and that he has a very good handle on his diet, exercise and changes in symptoms. We also reviewed his recent results from Lyme testing done. Arthur is positive for 6 bands of Lyme and 4 co-infections. She was happy to hear he is treating the Lyme infection and so proactive with finding new treatments for his ALS symptoms. We were told there is discussion for further research into the possible correlation between Lyme and Motor Neuron Diseases. We are hopeful that something comes out of that news sooner than later.

Arthur is also seeing an amazing neurologist in Connecticut who is doing breakthrough treatments for Motor Neuron diseases. Arthur sees him once per month. After the treatment he feels stronger all around, this usually lasts three weeks, we are hopeful this will have a lasting affect down the road.
Thank you for all the love and support, it's made an immediate difference emotionally and financially. We moved into our new apartment, thanks to your support, last week and it has been a game changer for our family. Arthur Jr. will be here any week now and we can't thank you all enough for your continued support. It means the world to us." - Chelsey
