Thank you so much for taking the time to have a look on our page and the attention you would pay to our volonteer and social development project, in Queretaro, MEXICO.
As students in architecture, landscapers, urban planners, social workers, engineerers in sustainable strategies (from european and mexican universities), we allow ourselves to ask your contribution in order to help one poor and isolated community called «La Otra Banda», in Queretaro city.
Indeed, our first interventions/discussions with this community and locals in October 2015 was really effective - and from that week, we are continuing to collaborate with locals and to create trusting dialogue with these people which are definitely ready to accept help from extern stakeholders to get back safety, identity, and sense of pride in their district - and the participative approach produced excellent results. From that unexpected enjoyment from the locals and our realistic social development strategies, all of the us, the 27 students involved in that volunteer approach, would need to find financial supports to built with locals, these following strategies:
- Street art interventions with local artists and the children of that community,
- Creation of new market’s kiosks for the cheapest market place in Queretaro (with the help of the market sellers),
- Cultural events with the help of local administration,
- Rehabilitation of abandoned houses for low-income families and to create small community centers and temporary schools (in low-cost and sustainable strategy) and last but not least,
- Signaletic interventions to solve traffic insecurity through the North of the city.
On our second trip, in January 2016 (2 to 3 weeks of workshops from the 15.01.2016), we will be volunteering with some locals organizations (painting compagnies, artists associations, administration members, market sellers group and local stakeholders), whose joined us in that social project, to improve the quality of life of individuals
and bring back social cohesion in that area. By developing and promoting the first social development in «La Otra Banda», we would encourage locals to highlight their own living areas, and start urban transformation through our social development.
We have the great pleasure of traveling to Queretaro within a transdisciplinary team and all of us are equally passionate and deeply concerned about serving others. We are all a part of ELOP (Environment-focused Learning & Operating Platform), the wonderful organization that made this social strategies possible. ELOP is a association of some universities, grouping together Standford University, Bangor University, Bauhaus Universität of Weimar, Bern University of Applied Sciences, Köln University of Applied Sciences, Haute Ecole du Paysage, d’Ingénieurie et d’Architecture of Geneva (HEPIA), Instituto Polytecnico de Milano, and Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores of Monterrey (ITESM), whose focus is on «Fringe urban and social conditions» - community outreach & developing minimal ouputs to engage urban mutations - among students. We will be in Queretaro for three weeks max., starting on January 15th.
To make this trip a reality we need your help. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to pay for the plane tickets, housing during our stay, food, travel expenses and donations and supplies that will be given to locals to create their own market kioks or new homes/community center/temporary school. You may donate directly online. If you would prefer to send a check you can contact me to receive my address. Anything in addition to the goal will be given directly to the community (local adults and children).
Any amount that you can give will be helpful. Even if you cannot make a donation, your thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated!
