The Story

My best friend and the most wonderful cat in the world, Beth, passed away after a sudden and violent illness on February 3rd. She was 9 years old. I got Beth from our local cat sanctuary when she was just 3 years old and she became my first cat and the best friend a person could ever hope for. We took her to the vet on Tuesday 31 January for an ultrasound as she had been unwell over the weekend. The ultrasound revealed an excessively weakened heart muscle, it had deteriorated to the point where she was barely able to move and was gasping for breath as her heart struggled to function. It was agreed Beth should stay in hospital for a couple of days and get settled with medication and treatment but it soon became apparent she would not be recovering. So on Thursday evening we made the single most painful decision of my life and agreed to let her go. To complicate things, my best human friend was getting married abroad on Saturday and while I was able to cancel my husband's portion of the trip, mine had to go ahead. So I was unable to be there for Beth in the end but maybe it was for the best, that her last memories of me were happy ones.

Our wonderful vet practice agreed to defer their fees for her treatment and claim payment from our insurance company instead, after all that is why people have pet insurance in the first place.
Yesterday however we received the news that the insurance will not cover any of Beth's care. They argue that as she has a medical record of an EKG done 5 years ago that this is enough proof that her heart condition was pre-existing and thus excluded from the policy.
Now, this leaves us with more than £2,000 worth of vet fees to pay in the next 14 days. And I need your help, even offering to pay the bill in instalments would do a lot of good - I would be paying this off for a couple of years at least, even with having a full-time job the money needed is just so much.

Thank you all in advance for reading this far and from the bottom of my heart I am so so very grateful for any help that you can offer.

Thank you. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for helping to make this happen. I am just blown away by the kindness and generosity of so many people, some of you absolute strangers who just wanted to help someone out.

It's a huge relief to get this over and done with and put it behind us for good. Now we can think about the happy times with Beth and not stress over the way things went afterwards.

So once again, thank you.

So I have some news. Our amazing veterinary practice has granted an extension to the invoice, it's only a week but it's a huge relief. So now we have until Monday the 20th of March to get the funds together. I am so incredibly grateful for each and every donation, share and retweet - it's really restoring my faith in people.
About half way there now but keep sharing so we can get the total amount raised.
THANK YOU!!!

We've made it to £1,000! This is amazing, thank you so much everyone. I have just a week left to raise the remaining amount, so please share this as far and wide as you can.

The silver lining in all this is that the vet practice may consider accepting a partial payment with an extension to pay the remainder - but more on that once I have something on paper.
