The Story

Our friend Andre was a brilliant man. Kind, passionate, full of love and optimism, he was a generous soul full of wonder and curiosity.

"A talented filmmaker and music lover, Andre will leave behind a collection of stunning, evocative moving images in the form of music videos and short films... But Andre’s biggest legacy just might be his capacity for kindness; the warmth and curiosity he showed to everyone he met; and the genuine, infectious passion he poured into his art and his life."  - The Current

On September 20th, Andre passed away in a tragic accident, stunning a large community of those of us who loved him greatly. He leaves behind a family who cherished him, friends who can't imagine laughing without him, and a legion of artists who were inspired by his tenacious vision.

At this time, the Durand family is dealing with incredible grief. As his friends, we are asking the wider community for contributions to help support the Durands - all donations will go toward helping them relieve the burden of final expenses.

*Please note: we are receiving donations but YouCaring takes up to 6 hours to post them. You may not see your donation immediately.

Thank you all for the support over the past ten days. Everyone is incredibly grateful for your love, help and charity in these sorrowful times.

We had the most beautiful day with Andre's Minneapolis family and friends this Saturday and hope to put together an event in his other home, New York, in the coming weeks. Contact Maria if you'd like to help in any way - with time, resources, a space or just good vibes - all help is welcome.

Please continue to share this link, as any donation is greatly appreciated.

This Saturday, at 5pm, there will be a Memorial Celebration of Andre's life put together by his friends and family.

Acme Studios
2635 28th Ave S,
Minneapolis, Minnesota

Stories... beer... music... dancing. Everyone is welcome. Certain to be a party Dre would dig. Five things...

1) We're going to have "story-time" on Saturday, but if there's any stories you'd rather write down (with some pictures), please send them to [email protected] or do both.

2) For big caches of pictures, big videos, behind-the-scenes footage, crazy voicemails, funny text message threads, etc of Andre you'd be willing to share, please upload them using this dropbox link ( by noon on Friday if you want them projected. The ones that came in so far, are beautiful. Include your name in the file name, so we know who the images are from. Alternatively bring them on a flash drive and we'll copy them to a hard drive for Andre's family.

3) We're building a soundtrack for the night. Please add tracks you knowAndre would love here... click the "Add videos" button and enter a youtube link. Or post a link on the comments section below, and we'll add it.

4) Dress code: Anything black

Thank you all so much for helping us cross the initial goal. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the support and the love for Andre. Please continue to spread this link around - an average funeral cost in the US is $10,000 - it would be amazing if Andre's friends were able to help the family cover this cost.
