The Story

Amy is a Women for Justice founder and before that she worked with us on Women for Bernie Sanders 2016.

Amy spends dozens of hours a week working for justice.  Now she needs our help.

Amy lives in Puerto Rico. We have not heard from her since Hurricane Maria devastated the island more than a week ago. She is a single mother with two sons.  Her closest friends believe because of her children she will attempt to evacuate to family on the mainland as soon as she can.

Like many of our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico, Amy does not have deep pockets. We must step up and do our part.

If you can help financially, thank you.  If you are not able to help financially, we thank you for sharing this.

En solidaridad con Puerto Rico.

It's hard to believe, but this week marks one month since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico.

Our Women for Justice leader, Amy, has been able to text via cellphone with team members on a regular basis even though electricity is still out on much of the island, and Internet access is sparse. In the last two days, Amy's house has finally gotten running water, although she is not sure if it's a permanent fix just yet.  Grocery stores have empty shelves.  There is still so much work to be done but Amy has a strong spirit and a wonderful community of neighbors.

The local economy is completely stalled, with banks and ATM's not functioning and a majority of the residents unable to get back to their jobs because their jobs/workplaces no longer exist.

Amy wants you to know she is grateful for the help and 'overwhelmed' by the support she feels from us all.

We are in daily contact with Amy via phone text messages. Her spirit is strong and as always, she is facing the challenges with her own brand of optimistic can-do.

That said, conditions on the ground are not good. There's a shortage of clean drinking water.  The concern for disease control grows, and mosquito control is critical.

Amy asks that we send her some Life Straws, tablets for purifying water and natural mosquito repellent--items they have limited access to right now but need.

We will use a portion of the donations to purchase and send Amy these items as soon as possible.

Thank you for sharing this and offering whatever financial help you can right now.
