The Story

Right now, a family we all deeply care about and love, is a little lost, and would very much appreciate your support and help.  The week of April 11, 2016, their beautiful little daughter, was diagnosed with leukemia.
https://www.facebook.com/angelsforamaya/
Their journey started at their pediatrician's office on a Monday morning, and took them to Community Hospital for an emergency transfusion overnight.  From there, they dropped everything and went to Spokane to see the specialists at Providence Sacred Heart Children's Hospital for more tests and a confirmation of the diagnosis. If any of you know the Kirkley family, you know how each of them have touched our community, including their daughter, Amaya.
If you have been the recipient of kindness, joy, and so much love from knowing them, please consider making their burden a little lighter. You can help with the expenses of travel and lodging, as the family is grounded in Spokane for treatment for the next 6 months.  Amaya will have a team of doctors in Missoula as well, to develop a plan to fight her cancer, and those expenses will mount, even with their insurance.
Thank you for supporting the Kirkley's through this incredible curve ball life has thrown them. Hard to believe that this all started Monday April 11, at the pediatrician's office. And now, they've dropped everything and gone to Spokane for treatment of Amaya's ALL. (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) The prognosis is good after chemo, but that treatment will last for a minimum of 6 months to 2 years.
This little girl is a wonder, a joy, and has better, stronger connections to the world, animals, and people around her than almost anyone I've ever met, of any age. She is worth everything.
Please, contribute to the support of these two loving parents who have given so much to our community. Just like you, they still have bills, rent, car payments, insurance, phone, and responsibilities. However not being able to work because they're in Spokane for 6 months, having those lodging expenses, PLUS the medical bills is a huge burden.
I want them to just be able to focus on their tiny daughter at this time. Let's make that a bit easier for them.

Thank you, and feel free to send cards and notes to

From Mom and Dad:

It's Amaya's "Cancerversary" today. It's been one whole year since her cancer diagnosis and today was the first day the words "cancer" have ever come out of her mouth. We sang her Happy Worst Day to you, which she loved.

My family is so appreciative and humbled by how much support, love, and prayers we've received this past year. We're incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful support system and such caring friends and family.

Just some childhood cancer statistics to mark this day :) :

"Cancer isn't always pink." Yes, it's true that more adults get cancer than kids, but the average age of cancer diagnosis for kids is 6, adults is 67. That means that the average number of years of life lost for kids is 71 while for adults it's 15. Cancer is the second leading cause of death for kids only following accidents. Only 4% of funding received for cancer research goes to childhood cancer.  Cancer isn't always pink

From Mom:
No place like home
No place like HOME.
As many of you know, Amaya just started the last phase of her treatment! Hooray! I've had some people ask what it means for her so here it is: Maintenance is supposed to be a much less intense phase than the first year, but it's also the longest. She will be getting oral chemo daily and steroids for a week out of every month for the next two years, as well as monthly chemo infusions and spinal taps in Spokane. We're just so happy to be home and living a more normal life.
