The Story

I'm still in need of a little help. I tried to get my July storage paid before the close of the 31st, but was unable to get the funds together in time. I have part of it, but not all. So on 8/1, August storage rent gets added on, another $280. My goal here is $700 to cover any more late fees and lockout fees on top of the $600+ I'll owe starting tomorrow (I'm writing this on 7/31).

One may ask why I'm unable to find employment. I'm switching from using retail as my fallback to finding other work that pays better and is a better use of my abilities and training. Also, I'm disabled, and many retail establishments want healthy people who can stand on their feet for several hours, etc. I can't. I'm working with VocRehab to get work and I have a feeling we're getting close.

I'm also taking the needed steps to get back to school and finish my degree. Life takes patience. Unfortunately, not everyone out there has the patience. Especially companies.

I'll keep updating as much as possible. I want to get this paid up as soon as humanly possible. Every little bit helps.

My backstory: I was evicted in March of this year and am currently homeless, staying with friends. Me and my cat, Portia, are struggling, but we're scraping by most of the time. The items in the storage unit I'm trying to get paid up are everything I own. From clothes to costumes to fabric to furniture, down to my piano, which is my legacy purchase from my dad's estate. He wanted me to get back into music so much. But he passed away before I could get a piano. I used some of the funds from the estate settlement to buy it. His coffin flag is also in there. He was a WWII Vet.

Please share, even if you can't donate. Time is running out.

I know I'm not some big charitable organization or anything. But sometimes the individuals get passed over when they need the help the most. Don't get me wrong, many charities do a lot of good, but there are no charities or services to help people like me who are simply trying to keep their belongings safe while they're homeless and struggling to survive. Am I out on the street? No. I'm staying with friends while trying to find work. I am still stuck in between. Portia is stuck in the room we're staying in because she and the household cat don't get along.
As I work toward getting back on my feet, my belongings are stuck in storage where I can't get to them. I need and want those belongings to be available for me to move back into an apartment of my own one day soon. Well, some of it. I doubt I can fit all of it into a studio apartment. But then I can move what remains into a much smaller unit. Cheaper unit.
I am simply asking for help to spread the word.

Thank you

Every little bit helps... share like it's a dandelion ready to release it's seeds to the wind.

My storage is now scheduled for auction and the funds I have are dwindling due to various other things needed (cat food, litter, human food because food stamps sometimes just don't cover everything... especially when you have a special diet). I am struggling. Every time someone shares this campaign or a blog post, more people see it. Right now, I'm down at nothing for the campaign. I have roughly $100 left from what I had at the start of the month... and the total right now is $712 because of late fees. Two months at $280 each and then late fees galore. I'm just trying to get by and raise the money to save my storage from auction and letting it get worse.

I am doing some paintings (w/mixed media touches) which could be sold as individuals, or (as my therapist suggested today) as a series telling a story. Those I'll post on my blog and on FB.

Thank you,
Amanda
