The Story

Hi! My name is Amanda... aka Penguin. I've had that nickname for 20 years now and it just kinda sticks. I don't mind it.

My backstory: I was evicted in March of this year (proceedings started at the end of January) and am currently homeless, staying with friends. Me and my cat, Portia, are struggling, but we're scraping by most of the time. The items in the storage unit I'm trying to get paid up are everything I own. From clothes to costumes to fabric to furniture, down to my piano, which is my legacy purchase from my dad's estate. He wanted me to get back into music so much. But he passed away before I could get a piano. I used some of the funds from the estate settlement to buy it. His coffin flag is also in there. He was a WWII Vet. I simply need to keep my things safe until I can get back on my feet and into my own place again.

I'm in need of a little help. I tried to get my July storage paid before the close of the 31st, but was unable to get the funds together in time. I have part of it, but not all. So on 8/1, August storage rent gets added on, another $280. My goal here is $1100 to cover any more late fees and lockout fees.

One may ask why I'm unable to find employment. I'm switching from using retail as my fallback to finding other work that pays better and is a better use of my abilities and training. I'm disabled, and many retail establishments want healthy people who can stand on their feet for several hours, etc. Something I can no longer do. I'm working with Voc Rehab to get work and I have a feeling we're getting close.

I'm also taking the needed steps to get back to school and finish my degree. Life takes patience. Unfortunately, not everyone out there has the patience. Especially companies. I still have yet to hear back on my appeal for school, but it's too late for me to get into classes this term, so no school money coming in to save me.

I'll keep updating as much as possible. I want to get this paid up as soon as humanly possible. Every little bit helps.

Hey! I'm baaaaaacckk!! Due to some miscommunication, the house internet was down starting at midnight Friday morning and should be back up this evening. I've had limited access via a couple of hotspots but couldn't do much. Opening webpages sucked up data, so I had to stick to FB and limited Wordpress time (such as writing my post offline then connecting only to publish it).

I now have to aim for roughly $1100, and it has to be available before auction, which will likely be the 15th of September. I'll adjust the goal accordingly. I know it's a lot to ask in the midst of fires and floods and all kinds of other things. I ask that even if you cannot donate, please share and spread the word. Every share can help. Every dollar helps.

Thank you.

As I'm still waiting to hear on school, I need to keep going on raising the funds for storage. Right now, I'm just trying to bridge that gap between homes and between jobs. I've always been one of those stubborn independent types. I don't like begging. I don't like asking for help. I prefer figuring things out on my own. But I can't make the money I need appear out of nowhere. So I ask. I even beg a little. I try to use humor at times, but I have days when my chronic pain or my depression slams me against the wall and being funny doesn't come out right. Lately, those days are frequent.

I'm not sure what else to do here. I can blog and do updates and keep asking and try to not sound too desperate, but the stress of this whole situation is taking its toll on me. My depression and the anxiety of dealing with the stress and my C-PTSD (from repeated sexual assaults 20+ years ago) are amplified and some days, just getting up and doing the basics is a challenge. I do what I can. I apply for jobs, I get medical and dental stuff done. I go on tasks around town to try and make some income. I can't assemble furniture all the time. And the tasks are "feast or famine" in frequency. One week, I can get 2 or 3 (one week, I had four), but then go 2-3 weeks with nothing. It isn't a living. It amounts to "spending cash" and not much more. If I didn't have to deal with storage, I could easily get supplies for Portia like a covered litterbox and fresh litter, and a vertical scratching post so she doesn't destroy things. But storage is an issue. It would be nice to have enough each month from my tasks to pay for storage and Portia's basics. I can't guarantee it, though.

Again, every bit helps. Whether or not you can donate, please do share these updates with your own circles of friends and family. Maybe enough will see it and be able to pitch in something.

Thank you

Please share far and wide... even if you can't donate. If you can, every bit helps.
It's now the 24th... if I don't get this paid before September, it jumps another $280 and auction is mid-month. You can also send direct via my blog. I post more random stuff there.
