Dear friends and family,
We are in a battle for Ally’s life against an extremely rare and aggressive form of cancer called peritoneal mesothelioma. In January 2017, just four months after Minh and Ally's wedding, Ally learned that she had a four-inch tumor, along with several smaller lesions, that were aggressively growing in the membrane surrounding her abdomen, the peritoneum.
There are only 250 total cases of peritoneal mesothelioma. Most patients are diagnosed in their 70-80s due to prolonged exposure to asbestos. Ally’s diagnosis is extremely rare because she is only 38 years old. The median survival period is one to three years. It is generally better for those who receive surgery.
After Ally’s diagnosis, her case was immediately reviewed by experts at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA). Her doctors recommended immediate chemotherapy to reduce the size of the smaller lesions. If successful, Ally would be able to have surgery to remove the larger tumor.
Ally began chemotherapy in mid-February. The side effects of nausea and pain have caused sleepless nights, weight loss, and multiple trips to the hospital. Despite the treatments, her prognosis remains uncertain. If the chemotherapy doesn’t prove effective in the weeks ahead, then Ally’s care team will decide upon an alternative path including innovative treatments that are in clinical trial.
Currently, we are expecting to pursue a clinical trial treatment and surgery for Ally. As a result, we also anticipate that her medical expenses will increase exponentially since these clinical trial treatments are not covered by insurance.
We covet your financial support for Ally's medical expenses. As you can imagine, these medical expenses have been costly, and will continue to be costly far beyond Minh and Ally's means.
Ultimately, we believe Ally's health and future are in God’s hands. With your love and prayers, we are going to continue this fight against cancer, praying that we will be able to share the gift of life with Ally for many years to come, and that Ally and Minh will be able to share the blessing of marriage till they grow old together.
We cannot thank you enough for the love, prayers, and support we have already received from you on this journey.
