Ally Hennessey is an eight year old girl and has been a part of the Saline community since 2015. She is currently a third grader at Woodland Meadows Elementary School and enjoys art, music, writing and fractions. Many people throughout the area know Ally from her efforts last summer to raise money and awareness through her Alex’s Lemonade Stand that raised over $4500 for childhood cancer research.
Ally has been battling a brain tumor since 2011 and has been on five chemotherapy protocols consisting of seven different drugs. Ally had a brief break from chemo from August of 2014 - January of 2016 until she had a recurrence. At that time, her family found that her options for an effective chemotherapy were more limited but she was allowed to start Mekinist (a melanoma drug) off label. The treatment timeline for this was two years. Ally has had some success on Mekinist but has also continued to lose vision (since her tumor rests on her optic nerve) and has had some stable scans and some scan with disease progression.
As her family looks ahead, they are exploring what other treatment options exist including upcoming clinical trials that have openings and show promise to stop her tumor, restore her vision or hopefully provide a cure. Ally is currently treated at Mott, St. Louis Children’s and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. They have also been in touch with St. Jude’s but there are currently no studies there that are open that she is eligible for. As new therapies are developed, they are hoping to find ways to provide Ally with the most effective treatment options.
We want to help them raise funds so Ally has more options if a drug trial opens outside of our area that provides promise to stop her tumor, provide a cure or restore her vision. There aren't a lot of options for childhood cancer treatment so I want to help them afford any treatment option.
We also welcome everyone to follow Ally on her Facebook page "Ally's Pals"
