The Story

We are excited to invite you to participate with us this August 2017 in ACEing the Enchantments and raising $10,000 for Alliance for Children Everywhere (ACE).

For over 46 years, ACE (www.childreneverywhere.org) has been a leading advocate in empowering families  through crisis care, early childhood nutrition and education, and best practices in family social welfare. Always focused on the child's best interest, ACE works to ensure all children in their programs thrive in stable families.

The Enchantments are a BEAST of a hike in the beautiful Cascade Mountains of Washington state. The Fridenmakers and Armbrusters will undertake this amazing 18-mile journey on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 in honor of ACE’s twentieth anniversary working in Zambia. We are privileged to have Cari Armbruster, the president of ACE, joining us on this hike! Joining Cari’s family is J.Paul Fridenmaker, a longtime friend of ACE. He helped founder Jennie Woods, and colleague Sandra Levinson secure their first major grant to launch the work in Lusaka, and even introduced them to his sister, Cari!

You can join us, too, by pledging your financial support to the life-changing work of ACE in Zambia.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 for the following:

$5,000 will place three orphan children with new adoptive families in Zambia
$3,500 will allow 15 babies to stay with their families by providing infant formula, job skill training, and financial literacy through savings groups for an entire year.
$1,500 will train and prepare 35 Zambian couples to become foster and/or adoptive parents of an orphaned child in their community.
$500 will help 25 families attend a weeklong job skills and entrepreneurship training intensive.
$18 ($1 per mile) will provide a month of support that keeps a family together and working towards long-term sustainability.

100% of your support will go directly to these programs. There is no fee taken from your donation on the YouCaring fundraising platform and ACE will direct all of your gifts directly to the aforementioned programs!

Thank you for your consideration and for helping us ACE the Enchantments!

Alliance for Children Everywhere is a registered 501(c)(3) and all USA-based givers will receive a tax deduction receipt from ACE.

Thanks to all of you who supported us to ACE the Enchantments!  As of yesterday we officially exceeded our $10,000 goal with $11,380!!  On August 29, our whole family (along with my mom, Cari, Erich and Ava) will embark on this beautiful 18 mile hike in the Cascade Mountains.  My sister Cari and the ACE staff in Seattle and Lusaka are thrilled at the awesome support and enthusiasm of everyone who gave.  I'll be sure to keep you posted with pictures and updates .  With you, we hold in our hearts the children who will be impacted by these gifts and hold ACE up in prayer as they faithfully work to welcome them into permanent families.

WE ARE ALMOST THERE!!  Less than $400 to go to hit our $10k goal and ACE the Enchantments!

We have done a few training hikes in the last several days:  Julie, my mom and I summited Mt. Pilchuck and then Julie and I did a backpacking trip with the kids and their friends to the Ozette Triangle.  We feeling ready to ACE the Enchantments!  I've posted a few videos on this site for you to enjoy.

Today I want to share the story of Jake and his blessing of a "forever family".

Abandoned as a baby and stabilized at a local hospital, Jake was admitted into the care of the House of Moses Crisis Nursery when he was the young age of approximately 3 weeks old.

As Alliance for Children Everywhere partnered with local social welfare workers in tirelessly searching for his biological relatives, Jake continued to thrive in the tender and nurturing love of his caregivers.  Unsuccessful in locating any biological family in the area, when Jake turned two years old, he transitioned to ACE's Bryant Crisis Nursery. There, he continued to develop as a healthy toddler, immersing himself in the Learning Center of Joy and lovingly interacting with the older children as if they were siblings.

In September 2016, Jacob was cleared by authorities to be placed into the Foster-to-Adopt program.  Through a thorough matching process, he was placed with the Libuku family and the threesome began bonding shortly thereafter.  Since having Jake in their care, Mr. and Mrs. Libuku’s love for their son has grown exponentially.  Jake has easily settled into his new family, and at three years old, pure happiness exudes from his joyful smile and curious eyes.  Thanks be to God!

2nd training hike in the Rockies!  This time Julie, Maria, Joshua and Jacob joined me as we hiked from Kite Lake up to Lake Emma.  Just stunning beauty.  Thanks be to God.

With this update I want to share about a simple, yet powerful concept:  Community Savings Groups.

A series of six local workshops were held for Family Preservation Program families last month designed to teach the importance and fruitfulness of saving money. With a goal of keeping families together for the long-term, the disciplined task of pooling income allows community savings group members to work towards future goals like small business ownership and financial independence.

Workshops were held on the grounds of ACE’s partner churches, utilizing the same places families come to for their monthly Nutrition and Nurture distributions. As nearly 300 adults were trained by local staff about the requirements and necessary steps of fully participating in the Community Savings Group program, the excitement continued to grow all week.

FPP participants were more than eager to learn about this life changing opportunity, enthusiastically asking questions and interacting with their workshop leaders during class and while enjoying lunch together.

Supporting the savings group concept themselves, two Community Savings Groups have been started among the local ACE staff. They have already noticed a positive difference for themselves and their families, and can share first hand with FPP participants the difference saving in this way can make in their futures.

From the income of these community savings groups, participants shared their hopes of purchasing new farm implements like hoes, wheelbarrows and ploughs. In addition, members would use their community savings to buy cattle, goats, pigs and chicken, helping to broaden their farming capabilities.
